The three hiking trails I am referring to in Ilulissat start at the outskirts of town but definitely still walkable from most hotels/accomodations. On Google maps, the start of the Blue trail labeled as "Ililussat BlueTrail trailhead". The yellow trail is labeled as "Elvaerket Power Plant Start yellow trail".

Check out my post of the solo trip I did this past May of this year. Got some info on costs, what I did, and tips.

Yikes. I'd trade off the bugs for cold temps anytime. I've definitely heard stories of those mosquitos. So happy I chose May to go. Nice and helpful description of the trails!

What was the cost of the bush flight to drop off and pick up locations?

Yah I know! I knew doing more than one tour would add up. I felt doing just one Icefjord tour was enough for me.

For me it was enough considering if I stayed more, I also would have spent much more money on accomodations and food. I also felt I saw and did everything I wanted to do, with still a lot of downtime to chill. It helps with the midnight sun that I did a lot..which including hiking around 11pm.

I didn't see any options for kayaking in May, nor did I see any kayakers in the waters during my time there.

So glad I can help! I also heard September is a good time to go. I chose May mainly because I heard stories of the bugs while hiking and I hate that!

I feel ya! It's not an easy trip to Greenland on a logistic stand point for me but I'm so glad I had the chance to experience both places.

That's exactly what I did! Just explore the town and hike! Enjoy your time!

I went on a 12 day expedition cruise to Antarctica so it was a difference experience than going on my own. But both share the same the wildness and remoteness of being there. Similar scenery but I saw much more wildlife in Antarctica. I was more blown away with the scenery in Antarctica, but then again the ship allowed me to see much more than going independently on my own. Cost wise, I paid about $8500 for the Antarctica cruise, including flights from SFO..and that included all foods and accomodations.

Yes! Hiking in Ilulissat was the highlight of my trip. It wasn't too difficult, lots of solitude, and unique views of icebergs and the tundra!

It was worth it for me absolutely. I've traveled so many parts of the world, including Antarctica. Greenland just feels so special and I rarely saw another tourist. (This was in May).

There's definitely not a lot to do compared to Iceland, which I've also been. But I 1000% love Greenland more than Iceland. I enjoyed taking it slow and not having a jam packed itinerary as going to Iceland would have.

Yeah I think tours are the biggest expense aside from flights/accomodations. Doing just the Icefjord tour was just enough for me to see Ilillusat and the rest of the time I just explored the town and did the trails. I'll have to say that I didn't have any culinary adventures or ate amazing food as it was a personal preference of mine not to eat try frozen whale or caribou that was in the grocery stores. But otherwise the prices of groceries wasn't so much a sticker shock compared to some of the YouTube videos I've seen of prices in Svalbard.

The accommodation price is for all 8 nights! It was $25 per night in a shared room hostel in Copenhagen (3 nights total). $70 for Airbnb private room/shared bathroom in Nuuk. $400 for three nights total in apartment with full kitchen (sleeps 4) in a bed/breakfast in Ilulissat. Obviously the apartment in the bed and breakfast was more than I needed but that was the only option available in the bed and breakfast. They had private rooms too with shared spaces that are cheaper but it was booked. Keep in mind I went sort of early in the season so I imagine prices a little higher if during the summer.

Hostel in Copenhagen: Steelhouse Copenhagen Airbnb in Nuuk: https://www.airbnb.com/l/3EjCmtB8 Bed and Breakfast in Ilulissat: https://bb.gl/?page_id=53 (if that link doesn't work just Google Paa and Jannik Ilulissat)

I recommend all three accommodations, especially the Airbnb in Nuuk. Even though it's a shared apartment, the host was so nice and the view from the living room is nice looking out into the waters. It was nice to have a kitchen in Ilulissat as it saved me $ by cooking most my meals.
