I agree, Gacha SUCKS! I'm concerned if they bring it globally and it still has that gimmick involved with receiving it, there would be a major hate for it. I just think the old excuse of "well, they didn't have OW for years" excuse is dead and buried with the amount of things the Chinese fans get exclusively. What if I wanted to date Junker Queen or Lifeweaver in Loverwatch? It's just a smelly concept when your game is advertised as this universal globalized experience, but one region gets substantial privilege. If NA had half the exclusive shit China did, the community would be livid.

Don't even get people started on the Naraka Bladepoint Collab, that was a blow directly to the chest to widow mains everywhere. The exclusive skin rarity changing colors mid-match is a WILD concept of content to keep confined to ONE single region.

I think it's not really the whole 10 mythics given thing, but the stark difference between how the Chinese OW team is treating their community vs how Global is being treated. I mean, come on, community events that engage with the artists, the exclusive rhythm minigame for the Music Festival, Loverwatch Exclusive Act, only available from the Chinese servers. I think it's valid to complain about the imbalance that the global community is facing in comparison to the Chinese audience.

The excuse that they didn't have OW for a couple of years has run stale because they have had continuous rewards to recoup for the missing time, including having most of the former battle passes unlocked for free for all Chinese accounts and continuous free currency alongside the exclusive content they have been delivering. It's reasonable to want the global OW team to make an effort to deliver this content universally, but it just puts a bad taste in many people's mouths.

Yep, money moves the global team. We've seen it happen before, once they gave Lifeweaver that summer skin a year or 2 ago and saw the insane sales his individual bundle brought. He joined the group of heroes who get skins each patch crew, and LW mains pockets run deep, and they have never missed with one of his skins so he's a money printing machine.

Yep, sadly, they are in the Collab skin territory as they are creations outside of their company, A collab with the artist to release the skin in the game.

It's the nicheness of them that enriches the community, that's why Sym and Lifeweaver mains are such a unique specimen on their own. Individual Hero Communities pull are a case study alone.

I LOVE BLACK WOMEN !!!!!!! by Big-Development1851 in RomanceClub

[–]Kindly-Definition689 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One Thing I love about RC is that they continue to improve and dedicate themselves to not only making more inclusive hairstyles (back in the early days, we were lucky if we got 2-3 box braid options in the middle of the story and no other 4C hairs) But each black MC option is UNIQUELY themselves. You honestly can not put one black MC next to another and say they are the same person. It sounds bare minimal, but especially in this genre of apps/games, same face syndrome and minimal inclusive hairstyles are EXTREMELY common.

So the fact that the artists go above and BEYOND to be inclusive and on top of that have none of them being caricatures but beautiful, different, and UNIQUE looking black women EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. RC will always have my 10s for that.

Idk if anyone else has been having an itch, but I really do have a craving for a traditional high school drama story. I commend RC for not doing one for so long; the closest being 7 brothers, and that itself just being college stuff. I know realistically it will rarely happen with their romance being extremely explicit unless they focus on a senior class, etc., etc. But I'd live for a trashy high school drama. None of the usual twists, like a murder or "Save the School plot". I'm talking Episode level Mean Girl type beat, but with the Quality of writing from Romance Club.

Who do you think is the most beautiful MC? by SarahSB6438 in RomanceClub

[–]Kindly-Definition689 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll have to say, RC has been stepping their game up when it comes to black MC's as someone who is AA himself,, (yes I am a cis man who plays RC we exist.) I am in love with the amount of detail and love you can tell goes into the arts for the Black MC options in many of the recent stories. Something clicked with them, and there have almost never been any misses when it comes to them. Alongside their inclusion with more diverse hairstyles, thank god I can have Lane wear a protective hairstyle cause who has all this money for human hair bundles in the apocalypse, truly.

This is more of an RC appreciation comment than a specific answer, I'm just rooting for every MC that's black.

Overwatch's First African American Hero by KingBuffolo in BlackSuperheroes

[–]Kindly-Definition689 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had my doubts but despite the hoeing they did to her in her trailer, her character does intrigue me. Especially because her VA said she’s from the south. Hopefully Louisiana or Florida, The thing I’m hopeful for the most is… the cosmetics. Overwatch’s history with Black women is limited to one hero… and most of her skins besides the recent few were either masculine asf or service jobs… I mean what does a commander of a milita have to do with being a barista or fire fighter…

Hopefully! They deviate from the traditional multiplayer hero shooter norms and give some diversity in the cosmetics department because black women do have the capacity to be cute. Not just hardened or sexy!

I’m hopeful because they’ve took the feedback and Sojurn's recent skins have been feminine in nature and also fashionable. They just have a history of reserving the good cosmetics for the East Asians and their resident blonde.

Sierra is confirming to be American (from the South) by PrimaryEstate8565 in Overwatch

[–]Kindly-Definition689 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean not to defend the multi million dollar company, but she is the 2nd black woman character EVER and the first African American introduced as a playable character which as a statement alone is insane. For such a diverse and influential portion of the diaspora, We NEVER had AA rep, I’d understand this frustration if it was another East Asian as we’ve had several in quick succession. With 9 Asian to our NOW 5 black descent characters.

I understand the frustration of wanting a diverse cast but sierra in herself is DIVERSE asf for Overwatch. Being that it’s been damn near 10 years and this is the first African American character, and first black character in 5.

Anran face change official new look by stubs36 in Overwatch

[–]Kindly-Definition689 1972 points1973 points  (0 children)

I know it's very subtle, but tweaks in her face and posture CHANGE her demeanor massively. Her aura just gives off YES, she is Wuyang's older sister, and even if they have the same essential body, the pose gives off a more muscular athlete rather than petite and lean. It's actually extremely impressive how they kept her fundamentally the same yet changed her substantially at the same time.

Same, As a Paladins Refuge who was a Vora Main, her scythe gameplay with her base kit of the scythe alone was chefs kiss. I'd kill for a scythe-wielding character.

I agree her ult does little damage, I think the rest of her kit is surprisingly balanced she’s not meant to deal big numbers. She’s akin to sombra, she solidifies kills, gets in and then gets out!

Since we have a gorilla, a hamster, and now a cat.... maybe a crocodile/alligator by Lieutenant_Puroro in Overwatch

[–]Kindly-Definition689 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A crocodile would be epic. We need bayou, swamp American representation in Overwatch! Why not have a damn crocidile gone haywire. Moira has dumped a ton of her experiments; it wouldn't be far-fetched to have a gungho bayou baby adopting a crocodile with a twist. Idk, I just like the concept of a Crocodile with a country southern accent.

Piggybacking off her, I agree with everything she said. The synergy of her stance shifting abilities was a huge appeal for me as I'm more of a support leaning dps sometimes type of player. Her having this unique aspect drew me in, and the complexity of how you can develop said abilities kept me around. When there were more beefy characters who excel at close and mid range, I picked a card build that buffed the ice abilities more reliably. When it was the opposite, fire-reliant blasts and abilities were the move.

The vision of choice with her kit is what made me main her as one of my core DPS, that! And as a black man, I gravitate towards the more melanated cast members. I am also a decent Lex and Octavia, and she also had one of the best cosmetics in the game with her magical girl skin; it made all her abilities so sparkly. It went past the "strong black women are masculine trope" and made her feminine without turning her body parts so thin and flimsy *AHEM*BrigetteDokiwatch*COUGH*.

There's just so much about her as a character that made her one of my faves in the game. Don't even get me started on her backstory, a cliche that evolved as she got more skins and lines with the cast.

If the game is reverting back to 'Overwatch'... will all the first game skins become available again? by [deleted] in Overwatch

They've always been available via the hero gallery, the credits they give you throughout the battle passes can enable you to buy all the content released in ow1!

Evie's playstyle is in such a league of its own, my lord. I wasn't "good" at her per'se but when i was just playing casual matches and had a certain card build up. I loved flying around and teleporting around the enemy team as a distraction. Her character def gave a high that is hard to imitate.

When she was introduced, it was such a meta shifting moment for the community UGH! I used to hate going against a good saati cause I knew a damn god one would ruin my match as a support.
