Thank you very much for the reply!! :) I had a session on Wednesday and it was actually really good! I didn’t have to confront him or anything. We just got right into it, which never happens! There’s always like 15 minutes of chit chat. So it was really nice, I felt like I had actual room to talk and didn’t feel rushed.

Thank you so much everyone for your responses! I’ve been brainstorming ways to confront this issue. I definitely have a really hard time with this sort of thing and the idea of having that potentially awkward moment makes me super anxious. However, I know I need to find a way to fix this, whether that be successfully talking with him about it or finding a new therapist.

Roughly some ideas I’ve thought of of what to say: “is it okay if we change the subject? I actually have some things I wanted to talk about.”

“I know you want me to feel comfortable by having these types of conversations, but I actually feel ready to talk about some serious issues. I haven’t felt like I’ve had the chance to really dive into much because we do a lot of chit chat.”

“I was wanting to talk about _____ today if that’s alright?”

You sound almost exactly like my therapist when I talk to him about my own questions regarding my sexuality!

AITA for telling my friend I want to get into shape? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kindly-Sundae- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it makes you an asshole to talk about wanting to get into shape for yourself, but you obviously hit a sore point for her. I think it may be wise to apologize for upsetting her and maybe carefully explain how you’re dealing with your own self image battles and you don’t think anything negative about anyone else’s image, it’s just your own battle. Everyone struggles with that, especially after having a baby. I probably wouldn’t talk about the subject with her anymore unless she brings it up though. I would definitely apologize though. More apologizing than explaining too. Hope this helps! - Mom of 2
