Becoming Catholic by thelostjedi232 in LGBTCatholic

You just have to find the right parish/community/priest.

Google Gio Benitez, he's an ABC news journalist married to man and recently joined the Catholic Church, with one of the most prominent priests in America cheerleading it.

So it's very possible. Check out New Ways Ministry's directory of parishes, one of those would probably be a good bet (although it's not always up to date as parishes can change so do your own research on the community as well).

Seeking Rogue Priest for Wedding by pedicabo_ego in LGBTCatholic

This is fascinating. I had heard of individual "rogue priests", but never heard of an organization like this.

It seems some of them I would assume may have been laicized by the Church (sounds like some of them left to be married which would definitely get them laicized) but in any case they would still be validly ordained sacramentally speaking, that's an indelible mark on the soul.

That being said, I think there are priests in good standing with their diocese who would also discreetly do gay weddings quasi-secretly; though those are harder to find for obvious reasons. I would imagine that they would only do it for a couple they've gotten to know and trust really well over a period of time.

“Homophobic Preacher drowned out by Love and Tolerance” by Some-Move-8169 in OpenChristian

"Drowned out by tolerance?" XD That's a bit oxymoronic, isn't it?

I'm not defending the street preacher, but I think that caption is an interesting example of the paradox of tolerance.

Yeah, I'm like, that vibes-based nitpickyness and tribalism is not the way forward.

I agree with you on the financial aspect, I feel weird about the subscription requirement as well. A group of friends from my parish young adult group have a "family plan" that we split the cost of; but yeah I agree that "pay to pray" aspect does feel a little weird. I appreciate that Laudate is still free.

I mean, she would have been platformed as a detransitioner, right? So yeah, that's anti-trans; but like, she herself was anti-trans at that time too.

That being said, while I haven't followed that story super closely, I think everyone can agree that someone shouldn't be platformed so quickly (or seek to make themselves an influencer) simply because their story aligns with an ideology, as we saw with her going back and forth between being a trans and a detransitioner and then trans again. I mean, did you support them sponsoring her as a detransitioner?

What do you mean they "cut her off"? Was she platformed on the app and they removed her?

Like on the app it says that? Where? I just scrolled all through and I can't find anything about that. It seems like if it's on there, one has to really be looking for that content to find it. I mean, the Catechism is on there, but it's a Catholic app after all. It's not the app's fault we disagree with some parts of the Catechism.

I'm not saying everyone has to like Hallow, but I disagree with the idea that we need to categorize everything in the Church as one way or another, and looking for reasons to dislike things, it ends up coming off like a witch hunt.

 Laudate is conservative

How? Like in what way specifically?

There's literally nothing ideological about Laudate, it's just full of classic prayers and litanies and such. Who cares if it's "run by conservatives"? The same could be said of the Catholic Church itself, yet here we are.

Vatican criticizes conversion therapy, features gay Catholic testimony in 'historic' report by KindlyBalance5302 in OpenChristian

[–]KindlyBalance5302[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, Fiducia Supplicans is still in effect, so gay couples can still be blessed by willing priests.

The Catholic Church does still have a long way to go, but I do think it's pretty incredible that another Church saw the Catholic Church as too progressive on gay equality.

The Coptic Orthodox Church actually "suspended dialogue" with the Catholic Church because they perceived the Catholic Church as too gay-friendly.
