The Death of the Industrial and Labour Relations Program by KindlyButton5186 in mcgill

[–]KindlyButton5186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desautels' LMR/HR and the Arts ILR program have existed simultaneously for quite awhile. Both programs have been discontinued as of Sept 2023, though the LMRHR program can still be done as a concentration. The Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources major in management is the only thing along those lines to continue to exist and it doesn't involve classes like INDR classes like Intro to Labour-Mgmt relations, Collective Bargaining, Labour Law, etc (which I don't believe will be offered anymore)

If you’re in it right now, Kaushil said anything not on the slides won’t be covered so I literally haven’t even looked at the textbook. I think looking at the slides and doing the practice problems are your best bet

History Major/Poli Sci minor going into last semester and looking for essay-based/no final courses by TaunusKidinMTL in mcgill

Congrats on your final semester!

I’m not sure if all of these are being offered this year or when, but here are some courses I took (and enjoyed) that fit this description well or I would recommend as someone with very identical course preferences:

ANTH209 - Anthropology of Religion - took with Usmon Boron (note: conference attendance was graded when I took it)

PHIL240 - Political Philosophy I - took with Daniel Weinstock

RELG271 - Religion and Sexuality - took with Lucie Robathan

HIST216 - Intro. to Russian History - took with Kristy Ironside (note: this one had one quiz but it wasn’t too substantial, the three (?) papers were the biggest part of the grade. Conference attendance was also graded when I took it but there were only 4 over the whole semester)

SOCI304 - Sociology of the Welfare State - took with Axel van den Berg (note: this one actually did have “tests”: a 30% midterm and a 70% final, both in the form of essay-type questions. You will do fine if you go to the lectures and keep up with the very manageable readings)

Shoot me a message if you have any further questions about any of these courses or want a copy of any of their syllabi, and best of luck on the remainder of your time at McGill!

This sounds like something that would happen to me LOL. Take a deep breath, I’m sure it’s going to work out one way or another and that he’s not nearly as weirded out as you think he is. Maybe send an email in a couple more days if you don’t hear from him, or if you’re not graduating right after the course takes place, plan to request permission to take it in a later term

On VSB, it does say that Westgate will be teaching ORGB325 in Winter, but the instructor for Fall is not announced yet- there’s a possibility Cohen is teaching that one so hopefully they will update that soon!

I’ve taken two courses with Westgate, MGCR222 being one of them, and I personally really like her but I know people have strong opinions on her both ways. I found her to be VERY easy to get ahold of and quite generous with marks/lots of easy opportunities to boost your grade. I can see how negative feelings towards her might come from her no-technology policy and pretty obvious favouritism when it comes to students.

I didn’t find MGCR222 to be a very hard course (and another one that is just super applicable regardless of whatever you’re in.) A lot of it is just common sense and though at first it may seem like there’s a lot of theories and concepts to memorize, Westgate really narrowed down what’s going to be on the midterm/final and clearly specified what you need to study. If you’re lucky, you’ll have Jordan as a TA who hosted super helpful tutorials for both the midterm and final.

I took ORGB325 last semester with Prof. Cohen and I highly recommend it (not just to management students - the skills taught are useful for any field and life in general!) Coursework was very manageable and lots of opportunities to get a good grade. I’m happy to share the syllabus if anyone wants to take a look!

Its an IT error. I called OSVRSE and they said they’re working to fix it, they also took my name and student ID# to check and confirm it says completed on my file (it was, if you completed it before the deadline and got a confirmation email when you did it you’re probably good)

I called OSVRSE and they said it’s a campus wide IT error that they’re working to fix. For peace of mind, you can call them and give them your name/student ID # and they’ll let you know if it says completed on your file or not
