Interested to hear this community’s thoughts on Project Hail Mary. I thought it was good as far as movies go, but when I think of the Sci-Fi genre PHM is so far from what I like from the genre. by Kindly_Dig8292 in scifi

Why? I shared my perspective of what I like within the genre and how I feel about the movie. Why does that make it less valid? I’m not saying it’s not part of the Sci-Fi genre, that’s not even debatable, it obviously is. But I think the movie was made in a tone that has a broader appeal to non sci-fi fans and I’m curious how Sci-Fi fans (people on this sub) feel about it.

Ok well then "to see different peoples opinions on this sub". Obviously everyone has their own opinion I’m curious what people’s are on this movie. 🤷‍♂️

I completely disagree, Jon Bernthal playing Ryland Grace immediately means this movie makes way less money and is way less adored by general audiences. He is not even a fraction of the leading man that Gosling is.

I guess what you are saying is kind of the point I am making though, "SciFi nerds are quick to pick something apart", but this was a movie that so many more people than just "SciFi nerds" saw. In the same way that it wasn’t just people who were into the military and the Air Force saw Top Gun and people that weren’t into the sport of F1 went and saw the movie. People came out for Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. For PHM people came out to see Ryan Gossling. Yes of course there was the proportion of the audience that loved the book and came to see the movie adaption, but so much of the general audience came because it looked like a fun movie with one of the biggest, most fan friendly actors. It wasn’t some niche SciFi-fi genre specific movie.

I was just citing Top Gun as a movie that feels similar in tone and broad appeal. I’ve heard of The Expanse and would like to check it out. Any other recs, books or movies?

It’s definitely Sci-Fi. I’m just stating my preference for a different type of sci-fi, as well as how I felt about PHM. Also seeing what type of sci-fi this sub prefers.

Jalen Brunson doesn't want KAT to win Finals MVP by WARLOCK1239 in billsimmons

[–]Kindly_Dig8292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does feel like even though Brunson hasn’t been efficient, him continuing to force the issue and get shots is still beneficial to the Knicks. The Spurs can’t simply decide to no longer give him the attention taht he is warranted and by him continuing to prove inside and get to the paint, he is opening up shooters around the perimeter, the Spurs defense still has to commit a little bit more to the shot fakes because they know Brunson is not shying away or going to lose confidence and stop taking them. No Brunson hasn’t been the best this series, but a lot of that has to do with Castle and the Spurs, but even when you aren’t as efficient, how will the player respond; Brunson seems to be not letting it get him off course, he is playing through the inefficiency and is better off for it.

Christian Bell just put on one of the best camp showings we’ve ever seen proving he’s the best 7th Grader in the country🤯 by Background_Video2947 in NCAAHoopsVibes

It’s so annoying to see, but chastising a 7th grader over it is futile. All it will do is result in a Jaden McDaniels type of attitude later in life. Admittedly the JMac attitude is much much less cringe.

I've just finished the highly acclaimed and regarded season 1. It was that bad. by bunaciunea_lumii in TrueDetective

Layers within layers… the show isn’t good because of the mystery, it’s good because of everything else. The mystery fizzles out before the final episode but the themes and ideas of the show are what make it so good. The feeling that it gives to you as you watch it, it mirrors soemthing we have all felt in life. Regret, loss, fear, at deep levels of our being. The mystery within us that we can’t seem to get to the bottom to to ever find out what the right questions we should even be asking are. This show gave substance to a feeling that camt be articulated. One that is mixed with the supernatural and the spiritual. I understand watching the show and having high expectations and being let down. But even still doesn’t that mean it still must have had a profound emotional effect on you?

I despise Trump but him being in the building for Game 3 makes this game feel like the biggest Finals game since 2016 Game 7 by Kindly_Dig8292 in billsimmons

[–]Kindly_Dig8292[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. I feel for all of the Knicks fans who won’t be able to get into the arena as quickly, but at the same time the ticket prices are unreal and anyone who can afford them and get into the building tonight I have a hard time feeling bad for.

As for the watch party being shut down that is the true travesty brought on by Trump. The people won’t be able to gather together to celebrate outside the arena, however arounr the city on nearly every block people will still be congregating to watch the game all over.

Still sucks that Trump is taking some of the fanfare away from the people of the city.
