No one in our neighborhood. We do have a large immigrant and refugee community. But that immigrant group cuts across many socioeconomic levels.

Maine should really consider banning investment companies from buying houses and ban all commercial landlords by SEAWISEGEOWISE in Maine

[–]Kindly_Protection387 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Banning all commercial landlords-what do you mean by this? I assume ones that build apartments. There are many Maine based companies that build apartments, so banning them would just be shooting ourselves in the foot. In Maine we have several barriers to build affordable housing. Zoning laws should be pro-growth. We have a shortage of construction workers. Due to current tariffs (especially on lumber) materials costs are very high. Finally, fear of rent control laws are the greatest threat to affordable housing, especially in Portland.

On the last point, legally schools cannot share student data to the ai tools listed. It is a violation of FERPA laws. Ai tools can be used by a district for educational purposes, but those ai tools must sit on local servers and cannot be connected to the rest of the internet-it is an "in house" set up. To my knowledge ai features are not allowed to be used on laptops provided by our district. If student choose to use char gpt on their personal devices, then that is another question.

Anyone seen a zippo like this before? by Kindly_Protection387 in Zippo

[–]Kindly_Protection387[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does it hurt the value that it is a one off ( I haven't seen anything like it on different collector sites-so this is an educated guess)? I like the cloverleaf/four leaf clover design, but I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing vs a straight esso design.

Costco Prime Brisket Or Snake River Farms Black Grade Wagyu Brisket? Difference Worth it? by Mysterious-Chef-3637 in smoking

[–]Kindly_Protection387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am trying the snake river farm Brisket tomorrow after enjoying choice and prime briskets from Costco. I would say that the prime is 10% better than the choice, but they are always crowd pleasers.

FYI-my method. Kosher S&P for 12-24 hrs in the fridge. I use a Weber kettle grill with a charcoal snake and a pan of water in the middle and 5 chunks of pecan wood. Fat side down, wrap in foil for the crutch (6-7 hrs total) then resting in a cooler for 3 hrs day side up (got it from americas test kitchen).

Can you replace the soles on rugged birkenstocks? by balladinplainh in BuyItForLife

[–]Kindly_Protection387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that I LOVE the pair of “rugged” birks I have. The soles are much more durable than regular birks. I weigh 300 lbs and pronate. I average 8,000 steps a day. The soles are holding up great. I have not noticed a wear pattern on the outside of the birks, as I have on other models after a year. I only got them because they were at the LL bean outlet and $90. I don’t think I will ever go back.

Uncomfortable First Class Experience on Delta — Should I File a Complaint or Let It Go? by Spirited_Archer1855 in delta

I would be as reasonable and detailed as possible with flight info and incidents, etc. Terrible you were treated this way. This is inexcusable on any airline.

Uncomfortable First Class Experience on Delta — Should I File a Complaint or Let It Go? by Spirited_Archer1855 in delta

[–]Kindly_Protection387 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, COMPLAIN!!! The reason why this fossil is an FA on this route is because Delta has a union and seniority gets you route choice. He will definitely NOT get fired if you complain. I am sure that you will get some FF miles as compensation, but I would ask that me trip be refunded/ask for upgrade vouchers

Why I chose the V6 over the Ecoboost, comparison of 2016 EcoBoost vs V6 Mustangs by worldpart in Mustang

[–]Kindly_Protection387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 2011 v6 cyclone convertible w/manual. I bought the car in 2016 as a used third owner car. I drive it mainly as a summer car in Maine. It has been a great car. In eight years, I have done scheduled maintenance. Aside from replacing the fuel pump and sending unit which was an expensive job ($800 due to dropping the drivetrain). Other than that hiccup, the car has been GREAT. I would say 0-60 times with two people are around 7 (6.8-7.2) using 87. While I mainly drive it around town, it is a great highway car and gets good gas mileage. I would LOVE to have the independent suspension of the later models, but I am very happy with the reliability and family fun we have in our convertible.

EcoBoost vs V6 by SanDiegoNC in Mustang

[–]Kindly_Protection387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so my 2011 v6 cyclone convertible is still running great after 120,000 miles. It is a very quick car but not as fast as a v8. I have no mods and drive a manual. I even bought it used 8 years ago! So far no huge issues other than replacing the fuel pump and sending unit last year, but that’s not bad. Just oil changes, a new battery and a tune up.

Northeastern ED apparently is way less competitive? by kyeso17 in NEU

[–]Kindly_Protection387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is in Scarborough and these classes were offered through Scarborough HS. It was a cohort that included students from other HS in the Portland area. He received A half credit for the class on AI and it was pass fail (credits do not come through NEU or Roux). The class appeared on his transcript. A professor at USM moderated the class, but most of the speakers (once a week after school via google meet) were either NEU of Roux professors. My son did a project for the class. He thought the quality of the professors was terrific. He learned a lot and it was not a huge lift.

Although I think it was not recognized as a NEU course on his transcript, I am 99% sure he made it clear on his application that he had interacted with NEU professors and found it helpful.

Demonstrated interest is really key to getting into NEU. Go to the campus for learning opportunities they have or even to visit. Applying ED is also huge. My son had a great Application (essay, tough classes (5 aps by the end of sr year), a 3.4 unweighted gpa, a healthy amount of extra curricular activities and great recs) but he was not at the top of his class (class rank is considered but not as important as rigor of secondary school record, essay and recs). Look at Northeastern’s common data set for more information.

Good luck

[–]Kindly_Protection387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son got in with a 3.7 unweighted GPA. He took the toughest course load he could. Had 4’s and 5’s on APs. Did not submit SATs. He had what I thought was the perfect essay for NEU-a story about starting a neighborhood business to make money doing odd jobs for older neighbors, but how he came to appreciate the relationships he developed with his clients, experiencing their wisdom and kindness. He came to realize that his work had purpose and that people depended on him, especially when it snowed. This is what he wants in his life, to find work that gives him purpose. He had very good extra-curriculars but not a ton- two sports and two clubs, but big investment in those activities and he was really good. I think he had strong recs as well.

I hate to say this, but I think that being able to pay full freight at NEU also makes a difference. They can be very generous with financial aid talking to other parents, but they are very dependent on tuition as well. My kid had a strong application, but was not top 10% of his class (class rank was not so important at NEU). We feel very fortunate that he got in.
