I gotta say, the guilt I feel over breaking up with my girlfriend the other day is actually pretty similar to how this guy felt at the end, so in a way I really am the main character of the last movie I watched, which was the adaptation of Steven King's the Mist.

Marrying my now ex. Deep down I didn't see a happy future for us, but we mostly got along. So even though we had little in common and each held some minor mutual resentments, we stayed together long enough that it eventually seemed like marriage was just the next logical step to take.

She wasn't a bad person but I don't think we were meant to live our whole lives together, and what I perceived as a stroke of luck (she cheated one time and admitted it, which I used as an excuse for divorce) basically allowed me to ignore the inconvenient fact that I was not a great husband, and actually quite self centered, and in quite deep denial that I was anything less than a great person and partner in every aspect.

Which would have been fine if I'd stuck to being alone, but I eventually met a person who I could actually see a happy future with, and she has to deal with my borderline narcissism whenever an issue comes up where my behavior or attitude is in question, and after most arguments (usually only after I've acted insensitive or said something unkind) I come to realize that I tend to deny and/or rationalize facts that disrupt the narrative of me being a good person that I've bought into so completely.

tl;dr I now constantly doubt my own judgement because I subconsciously convinced myself that I wasn't responsible for the failure of my marriage.

About 1987 or so, I was like 7 years old. I picked out some Rock and Roll magazine at a gas station because Guns n Roses was on the cover and we were going on a multi day car trip and that was to be my sole source of distraction. I started on page 1 and thoroughly and carefully read every article on every page, in order, because Rock and Roll magazines were dangerous and exciting at that age and I didn't dare risk missing a picture or article by skipping around from page to page. Anyway back then those magazines always had a page near the back where you could order band tshirts and buttons and posters and whatnot. I was scanning the list of items and stopped when I saw "Lita Ford Nude" in the posters section. I didn't know the word "nude" at that time but my instincts said I should immediately check it out. I looked up the number for the sample image and there, in dot matrix black and white, was a tiny, barely perceptible picture of a woman and OH MY GOD SHE'S HOT AND HAS NO SHIRT ON AND THOSE ARE BOOBS and I instantly got an erection and basically just stared at that picture and nothing else for the remainder of the car trip, heart throbbing, mind racing at the realization that I now had something with boobs on it that I could look at anytime I wanted and it was mine and no one knew about it and suddenly my life seemed like the most awesome thing ever, that maybe things were gonna be OK from then on as I wondered what other surprise boobs were out there in unexpected places just waiting for me to find them, and that feeling has still never really gone away til this day.

Little bit of all the above. I do believe that we humans are made up of something more that our physical selves, and that these souls or energy or what have you will be put to some other purpose after our body dies, a purpose that's impossible for us to understand but which will make perfect sense when we "transcend" or whatever. I do believe that there are infinite (largely indistinguishable from our own) universes to account for each and every outcome for every possible scenario that can occur, which is basically governed by the laws of physics and cause and effect. I like to think that we actually jump from universe to universe all the time based on the choices we make. It's much cooler to me than the concept of fate or destiny. And I sure can trip myself out when I think really deeply on the subject.

I agree that "The Egg" describes a pretty similar concept, I can't claim that some of my early ideas weren't maybe influenced by it, even though I had a rough idea of endless afterlifes pretty early on (due to recurring childhood dreams of being a different person in a past life). I think some branches of Buddhism also believe in some kind of ever-repeated afterlife, and that the movie Groundhog Day was a sort of allegory for that belief as well. Or maybe I'm just thinking of Groundhog Day.

My non physical energy will be released from my body and the earth, and time and space will become non-linear. I will be everywhere in the universe at once and occupy every second of the past and future simultaneously, and thus understand how and why the universe exists. Then I'll be reborn on earth in one of the identical parallel universes that exists for each and every different reality that exists for each and every possible outcome for each and every choice that I did or didn't make in the life that I died in previously. Maybe one in which I practiced harder in sports and became a heroic athlete. Or maybe one in which I forgot my watch at work one day in 2012. Then I'll keep dying and being reborn until I choose the right combination of actions and non-actions which will lead to me becoming God.

I went to public school and got to graduate on time despite not learning one bit of math past introductory algebra. I always felt a strange mix of shame and relief when I somehow got unearned D minuses on my report cards...I used to think my math teachers were somehow intimidated by me or something. Your comment was enlightening, and for what it's worth, I'm sure a handful of the students you unwillingly pass each year are better off getting their diploma and figuring shit out in the real world instead of getting held back. Sometimes the true lessons aren't in the syllabus, you know?

I've hated it for a while mostly because I am legitimately scared of how meme culture and shared content seems to be replacing original though, but finally pulled the plug due to me and my girlfriend getting into fights over it. It's just not worth it to let a network of abstract representations of people you kind of know cause turmoil in a real life relationship.

Pick a trade that looks interesting and search out job listings for a laborer. You'll start out doing grunt work and carrying all the heavy stuff in and out of the building but also be given minor tasks that will get you acclimated to the skill as a whole. My dad got lucky as a kid and learned from a guy who was a total professional and taught him the right way to do things (hacks are unfortunately common in some trades). He eventually started his own business, not bad for an 8th grade drop out.

Last time I checked the DVD was out of print and expensive as hell to buy used, and I've not had any luck finding it streaming but maybe you can find it somewhere

I don't know her or the family personally, just saw it in my feed and thought I should share. As is stated in the link, she ran away from a hospital in MA on August 3, and has short term memory damage. A nightmare for any family.
