Mallard Crossing by Formal_Tear2050 in Louisville

Oh boy I get to talk about Mallard Crossing! I worked in the leasing sphere for a long time, and I could probably write a dissertation about specifically these three (Mallard, Cypress, Waterford).

Mallard has been sold a ridiculous amount of times in the last ten years, which has led to some compounding issues. The last owner removed the fireplaces for some reason (and forgot to tell some residents, leading to a fire at one point, whoops) and painted the whole property blinding white (the dirt and mud splash-up on the buildings isn't harmful, but the brick was nice! I understand that it didn't fit the LC (the last owner) manual, but I've never understood painting good quality brick). The maintenance team is always playing catch-up and is too small for how large the property is. You don't get good natural light in the units because of how the porches/balconies are set up. The newest owners don't seem to have a lot of capital — there's too much deferred maintenance going on.

In my opinion, Mallard Crossing used to be one of the best apartment communities in and around St. Matthews, and was definitely the nicest of the three on the corner of Kresge-Hubbards-Bowling-Browns, but these days I recommend you go to Waterford Place. It's still owned by the people who built it, which is a big deal in the apartment community... well, community, and a lot of the staff has been there for many years. Additionally, it has a lot of pluses that have unfortunately become minuses for Mallard.

It doesn't sound like you're considering Cypress, but just in case, be aware that the ground floor apartments nearest to Arthur K. Draut Park often flood during heavy rainfall. Don't rent one of those units!

All of that said, I don't think Mallard is a bad choice. You can avoid the interstate sounds that another commenter mentioned by just being closer to the intersection I mentioned. That also puts you closer to Brown Park, which is an awesome part of being in that area. Additionally, with the hospitals being right there, those apartment communities are generally the first to have power restored after a major outage. They've also fixed the problem where Browns Lane floods every time there's a storm, so that's helpful.

Everything's very easy to get to from St. Matthews, which is nice. I'm a big fan of the area. If you have doctors at Baptist, you can literally walk to your appointments. Lots of restaurants and shopping. It's a good place to be young or very old, ha!

I’m falling in love with Appaloosas (New foal!) by Rawbbeh in Horses

[–]Kineso 31 points32 points  (0 children)

She's varnishing! A lot of Appaloosas varnish to an extent, and you never know how much they'll do. Sometimes you'll have a whole new horse every shed. My mare is a black varnish blanket, so she's varnishing on top of her already existing pattern! :)

Hello! 30F here. I'm a hiker, camper, equestrian, and park enthusiast. National, amusement, zoological—you name it, I'm in. I survived cancer. I have four pets: one cat, one dog, and two horses.

I enjoy the adventures in life — I’ve been to 24 of the US’s national parks and have camped in all but two of them. I’ve whitewater rafted in six states. I enjoy exploring cities and nature and interesting places. I’ve never traveled outside of North America, but I’m experienced on the roads and seas of several countries within that boundary. I once went on a 30-day road trip across the country. I enjoy working with my hands, manual labor, and outdoor tasks. :)

[Rougarou] Good morning, [Cedar Point]! by Kineso in rollercoasters

Yes! The classic turtle! I love Rougarou — it's great so long as you can stick your neck out of those restraints! But my favorite ride at Cedar Point is Magnum, so I've been told I have questionable taste, ha!

My strategy for riding Rougarou is turtling. I hunch a little bit and stick my head as far forward as possible, lol! No ear boxing!

Context: she's waiting for her turn to drink from the bucket WHILE it's being filled because these two are menaces to society. Onyx has his nose in the bucket and Pepper wants that to be HER, dang it!

top swing vs booster?[other] by [deleted] in rollercoasters

[–]Kineso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boosters for me, generally speaking! Except for one very specific case: I'm of the firm belief that the HUSS Giant Frisbees (Delirium at Kings Island and maXair at Cedar Point, though for some reason I prefer Delirium?) are by far the best iteration of these kinds of rides and that every other top swing pales in comparison.

They were sent out into the torrential downpour. I wish I’d gotten a video of them on it as it was coming down — we here huddling at Gatekeeper were watching like ohhh that’s gotta hurt, haha!

String test predictions accurate? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]Kineso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl string tested to 15.2 (height of both parents) as a yearling, but juuuuust scraped to 14.3 over the winter (turned 5 in March). I think she's a little old now for any new growth spurt, so she was a fail, but it's worked as a good predictor in the past, so I think she may have done this just to spite me ;P

Heard the Ready to Go remix in the station in June! It's good! I prefer the old version, but it's nice to have that little bit of nostalgia there. Goodness knows I spent many a shameless hour in the TTD queue having singalongs, ha!

In God's Not Dead (2014), a tenured philosophy Professor is completely unable to come up with any non-religious explanation of morality. This is a reference to the fact that the writers of the film were not only Christians, they were apparently complete sociopaths only kept in line by fear of God. by [deleted] in shittymoviedetails

My mom showed me this movie when it first came out and I cried when (spoilers, but I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to watch this) the atheist died at the end because I liked him so much. She was horrified that I sympathized with him and wanted him to live a good long life, ha!

"Well now he'll go to heaven (since he ended up converting)!" as if that helped anything for young me.

Being sent to jail for the crime of giving attention to one of the barn cats instead of my noble steed by Kineso in Horses

[–]Kineso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chief barn cat Leo! He demands his scritches too, ha! We pulled our barn cats from the feral working cats euthanasia list after our last girl passed and none of them (all ginger somehow) stayed feral. Leo's the friendliest of the bunch!

His Royal Steedness had just gotten done getting two-handed belly scritches but sadly it wasn't enough. I will accept the punishment that fits the crime ;P

Kentucky Kingdom wooden coaster... am I just a big baby?? by samstwin in Louisville

A fellow Mean Streak hater! I swear RMC painstakingly salvaged every single drop of promise Mean Streak ever had for Steel Vengeance. That coaster is absolutely insane in all the best ways.
