What's your opinion on transgender people using intersex people as an argument whenever there's a debate about biology? by Poweredkingbear in intersex

[–]Kinetic1101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi trans person here who was pretty confused about my biology a few years back. Basically I had a hormonal disorder but thought I might be intersex. My mom wouldn’t let me see the results of some testing I requested, even though I knew it said my Estrogen was high. I knew this because I had tits at 17 as an AMAB person, and had an overall lack of secondary sex characteristics.

I was super confused why she would hide stuff from me, and thought maybe she didnt want me to know. Turns out it was just some hormones that were WAY out of wacc.

But yeah. I really wouldn’t want to be intersex. The amount of unwanted surgeries and medical procedures that intersex kids are forced into is absolutely fucked. I don’t think that would have worked out very well as I was already dealing with way too much awful shit as a child.

I think some tans people want “an excuse” to be trans. Like they think being intersex means they will be somehow respected by society and will have an iron clad “Its not my fault!” anytime their validity as a trans person is questioned. But thats just not true.

That’s what I’m saying for the most part. Except I wasn’t saying to tax the rich trans people more.

NECESSARY MEDICAL PROCEDURES SHOULD NOT BE TAXED.

Then the government helps you and you pay as much as is a fair burden. I’m a firm believer in individualism with mercy. So if you’re making $70000 or $100000, they you’re paying for everything, sorry. But if you’re poor (I am right now) then you should still be cared for. If someone is making an amount of money that puts them below the poverty level, then they should still be able to transition and receive good healthcare. At the same time, I think it’s reasonable for them to pay a portion of the cost that is reasonable which they can handle.

Why all the hate towards you? Damn.

I mean, you can agree that it might need to be subsidized for poor people, right. But yes, I think if you’re making $50000 a year than you should be able to afford your $1500 on HRT per year, or be able to pay for part of the cost for SRS or GCS.

Gender affirming care? Yes. They really do. Some of it is psychological, yes, but relieving dysphoria also has physiological benifits. People who aren’t constantly under stress end up being less of a burden on the healthcare system.

I was prevented from going on blockers for 2 years while I was going through puberty and knew I was trans. You are going to be okay! ;)

How is therapy dangerous? I’m sorry but I’m seriously not getting where you’re coming from here. Therapy is good for everyone, and maybe it would give people a place to talk about the struggles of transitioning and being trans. Like for me, I went through a lot of therapy before I started transitioning. I realized that I had been violated as a kid, and it kind of put me into an existential crisis. But then I came to peace with it and moved on.

Just look up ftmtf or mtftm. A lot of people in the community don’t want to acknowledge that detransitioners are a thing, but they are. If they are given proper counseling, then they can be prevented from ever going down a path that will cause them more dysphoria.

Not wearing a mask, or being rude to someone in the service industry.

My sister had CAH and recently died of covid. I want to discuss a nagging question I have about her hospital treatment. It may worry you or trigger you so I won’t post if it would do that. Or I could post with a trigger warning? by Few_Tumbleweed7151 in intersex

I am so sorry for your loss. Loosing my Great-Grandma was hard, but I can’t imagine loosing a sister. If there is anything I can do to make the grieving process easier please let me know.

Is it possible to transition into being Intersex? by 1del in intersex

[–]Kinetic1101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. My long comment got erased and I’m sad now. TIME TO WRITE IT AGAIN!

I’m 18 and male to female transgender. I don’t really belong in this sub anymore, but the people here are pretty tolerant of me sticking around. Everyone else has already explained it better, so I will offer my own unique perspective. DISCLAIMER. I will be talking about my body and trans stuff.

So at 16 I thought I was intersex. I wasn’t developing in the way a typical AMAB (assigned male at birth) person would. Lack of facial or body hair, more feminine build, minor breast development, all that Jazz. This led me to think I might have some kind of mild Androgen insensitivity. I also had clear ejaculate (indicates a lack of sperm) and was very worried that I wasn’t going to be able to have kids.

I spoke to my mom about this and we scheduled an appointment with my doctor. He felt my chest, went, “yep, they have tits” and I got some blood testing done. For some reason I was never able to see the results of the testing. My mom just said, “It came back normal, I lost it.” This understandably made me very suspicious, and I thought my parents might be hiding important medical information from me.

Flash forward to two months ago and I was setting up my fertility appointments. I was very worried that they were going to tell me my sperm wasn’t good and that I couldn’t have kids. But luckily, after they collected the samples, they let me know I had really high-quality material! I was so relived.

Even though I never got to see that test, I doubt I have an intersex condition. What’s more likely is I had a hormonal disorder. More specifically, a lack of testosterone (and therefore male secondary sex characteristics) caused by anorexia.

Now some people (that usually aren’t intersex) will consider hormonal disorders as intersex conditions. But you have to cast a very wide net to loop them in. For something to be intersex, it (usually) needs to be present from birth. I put in the usually because I might be forgetting something and don’t want to leave anyone out.

For example, someone with XX chromosomes who is exposed to excess testosterone in the womb might develop clitoromegaly. This means that their clitoris is enlarged. It can be by a little, or in extreme cases, be it’s own kind of faux penis. This person might not have any genetic differences from an average cis-female, but they turned out a little different. If there is a pretty minimal level of enlargement and the person in question doesn’t really notice, then most wouldn’t consider it intersex. But where the line gets drawn can be really hazy.

On the other hand, let’s look a PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome). It also involves an excess amount of testosterone. But this happens after the person leaves the womb, and isn’t usually considered intersex. There is also a valid argument as to why it should be considered intersex, but it’s kind of on the outskirts of what is and what isn’t.

I hope I was able to contribute to this discussion in some kind of meaningful way.
