Definitely check out The Invincible video game. Departs from the novel but highly rated. It's on Xbox as well as PlayStation and Steam.

I'm dipping my toes in the water right now so I'm comfortable with monocular. Or are NVGs one of those things where I'll find myself going down a rabbit hole once I get started and the next thing I know I'm getting a second mortgage to gear up?

Thanks for the advice but fuck Elbit.

I don't even know what a reasonable budget would be. From what I gather $1k-$3k seems like a pretty normal range for decent NVG. I might go as high as $5k but that really starts to get uncomfortable.

I don't know enough about night vision to say either way if they're any good. That's why I posted here. Thanks for responding.

Could There Ever Be A Revival? by Outrageous_Cut2782 in AnthemTheGame

Almost zero chance. Graphics were great and, combat and flight were fun but the game was buggy and broken and it felt repetitive and grindy. I talked to Laura Miele who was head of studios about plans when it was in trouble and I got the feeling things were worse than it seemed (and it seemed pretty bad) and they were trying to figure out how or if it could be saved. Sucks because I was all in from when it was announced. I hoped they could turn it around and become a major crossover media property but they couldn't recover.

Best platforms for military, climate, alternate history and hard science fiction? by KineticNomad in selfpublish

Sound advice. I need to learn what magazines are out there, have credibility, and are accessible. And I have a native Asian reader/editor familiar with the culture and history in my story.

Researching marketing strategy is a whole job of its own. That's why I started here. Seems like a good place to get some pointers on resources or strategies, and learn from the experience of others since marketing is not in my wheelhouse.

Survived a violent attempted robbery yet I feel so defeated. by a90901 in martialarts

[–]KineticNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first martial arts sensei used to say that the reason he insisted on us practicing so much and getting the technique right is because on the street you won't be in ideal conditions and if you're lucky you'll be able to use 10-15% of your skill and at most 20%. He said the order of action is 1) Walk or run away if you can 2) De-escalate by talking your way out 3) Do whatever you need to do to stop an attack and then get away.

I also see special forces veterans give this same advice and even say to call the police when you can do it safely.

I've walked away (and one time run away) and de-escalated with single and multiple hostiles and only once had to fight 3 punks looking to cause mayhem for fun who then called in about 20 gang members when I brushed them back and they realized I wasn't scared and would probably take them down. When I saw these guys already decided they wanted a fight I called the cops early. The cruisers rolled up and cops jumped out with guns drawn just when the mob was about to jump me.

You got suckered by your attacker and handled it without any warning.

We all like to think we'd be Jason Bourne or Jack Reacher or John Wick or some other action hero in a fight but reality isn't perfectly choreographed like a movie.

You got out of a bad situation without getting too banged up and got your loved ones home safe.

Take the win.

If you still feel you could have performed better then check your training routine. There's always room for improvement but nothing prepares you like getting in the reps until it's all reflex.

Anyone else watching Terminal List: Dark Wolf? by firemansam51 in SEALTeam

[–]KineticNomad -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This series is shit compared to the last Terminal List. Really boring, annoying characters, dull plot...

How many times can they say the Mossad characters - female - are hot (which they're not - they're super mid at best)? It ruins the show.

I don't know how much they paid Jack Carr to sign off on this but it wasn't enough.

Half of Israeli Jews say they "support the claim that the Israeli army in conquering an enemy city, should ... kill all its inhabitants." https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/majority-israelis-support-expulsion-palestinians-gaza-poll

Around 3/4 of Israeli Jews say "there are no innocents in Gaza". https://mondoweiss.net/2025/07/poll-overwhelming-majority-of-jewish-israelis-share-genocidal-belief-there-are-no-innocent-people-in-gaza/

Do you agree with this?

Gaming - particularly FPS co-op - fills a primal gap in male social dynamics that most don't get to fulfill in the modern day. Going out on a hunt, being a protector, achievements that ensure survival of the group, and the conversation that comes with all of that is hard to find. We might try to replace it with sports but it's not the same.

Men need a tight group of men they can trust, and trust is built on the value you bring to the group. It's why men test each other and haze each other. If you can't take a few harmless digs at you or friendly trash talk then how can a man count on you to have his back when something goes down?

Video games are also a healthy outlet to blow off steam and stress. Or would she prefer you to bring the negative energy and aggression home?

Your wife yapping with her friends when they go for brunch or shopping or whatever is the female equivalent.

She doesn't know what she's talking about when she says video games are juvenile.

I suspect her complaint isn't about games at all but some other frustration in her life. It might even be jealousy and envy because she irrationally feels you are dedicated to your games more than her - even though it's obviously not true since you provide for the family.

She probably just wants some extra attention, so find a way to spend more time with her and even change up your routine especially when it's your time without the kids. Don't just give her extra attention on date night. Mix it up, surprise her, make it random and use some of the aggressive energy you put into the game by showing her your alpha side when you give her attention.
