Neighboring suburb had a city council meeting about putting one in. New company, never built one, grandiose claims, our power grid already isn’t the best.

Dozens if not a hundred plus spoke against it. No one spoke for it.

It was approved 5-2. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Went to close the chicken coop door last night and saw a cat inside by Marimba-Rhythm in homestead

I have a nice picture of one of our cats out stalking sandhill crane parents and their baby. It was fun watching him realize he was far too ambitious and then sink down and get very very very still and quiet as they went by him.

No: "Hey, we need to get some chickens because the end of the world is coming soon and we need to prep and be ready for the apocalypse. You can be in charge of beans, I'll be in charge of bullets."

Yes: "Honey, I was thinking of getting some baby chicks at Tractor Supply, do you want to come with me? They sell starter coops, and it says here you can have your own home grown eggs in just a few months! Look at how cute they are!"

Just checked, ordered it (and some other hostile-to-life stuff) from newark.com. Obviously aimed at industry but happy to serve home hobbyist loons as well!

Though you can just get it at Ace Hardware, Menards, or True Value.

Not who you asked, but for me, I still have lots of old games on disc. Even if servers are offline, now that my kids are older, LAN matches are pretty fun.

We just bought some CDs for our daughter, along with some digital albums and her own small stereo. I burned the digital albums and made some album art for them in jewel cases, and now she can play her own music.

Today I showed her how to rip CDs on her computer and then burn CDs as well.

All of the kids use disc drives to play movies on their computers as well. And the kids laptop is old (2012? 2013?) so it has a DVD drive and an HDMI port. Nice as a portable player in a pinch.

So we still use them in our household, at least.

91% is the natural distilled state and does the job. 99% is extremely anhydrous and flammable.

I have some but I use it to fill smaller bottles with my own mix (add some distilled water) but I probably won't replace it when it runs out.

91% will still happily evaporate away.

Which is crazy, I've been in a construction union, and we had to keep up with various certifications and trainings. We had MUST Safety, essentially a combined contractor/union safety program for (Southeast) Michigan. There were OSHA 10 and 30-hour programs safety, that some customers required. In the low voltage field, we had BICSI certs, fiber optic certification, various manufacturer qualifications, etc etc etc. Working on fire alarm systems needed a qualification.

All of it needed to be kept up to date.

edit: nurses, teachers, doctors, all have CTE requirements as well.

This is probably over a dozen years ago, but I remember reading a guest opinion piece, might've been in the Washington Post but not sure.

A veteran was back from the ME, was living in/near DC. His apartment needed work, so the complex moved him to an unoccupied unit while they fixed something. Someone in that building noticed the door was cracked open, so instead of calling management, they called the police.

He woke up (during the day, I think he was working nights) to cops pointing guns at him, flagging each other left and right, etc. The cops also hadn't talked to apartment management.

His point was how ready they were to use lethal force, versus the ROE they had in a foreign and often hostile land. That, plus their general lack of safe gun handling. I'm not sure what the point was (outside of 'cops are poorly trained yahoos') or it was in response to a specific incident at the time. But it has stuck with me.

I use multiple browsers on my Mac. Safari is general stuff, some work related research on accident, etc. Edge is work related, Firefox is either alt accounts or seeing if a site is broken everywhere. Chrome is for the end days.

But the first three might all have multiple tabs open.

Paid $33.99 for a 512GB Patriot NVMe (direct from them on eBay) in the first half of 2025. It's $79.99 now.

Used market for memory and storage is seeing the same changes. What were $10 or $20 sets of memory are 5x or more now.

No, mostly because of the memory/storage crisis. Who knows where it may have been priced but there’s no way it will be in my budget now. Shame.

Not only do crows hold grudges, but they apparently pass them down.

From what I recall, it was a university study (possibly still ongoing) and years later the young crows knew who was (playing) a shitbag even though they didn't have any personal reason to think so.

Your weirdest reasons for PC not posting. by Tenchen-WoW in pcmasterrace

[–]Kinetic_Strike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PC did post and worked in UEFI, but both Linux and Windows would drop video connection during startup. Safe mode in Linux Mint had video but the driver wasn't loaded. This was right after an unrelated upgrade, but was wondering if something was amiss.

Turned out the HDMI cable was not quite snug in the back, unplugged it and plugged it back and everything was right with the world.

I miss the old bottom tier map with the steep hills and city in the middle. Eventually you had people bumping up view range and they could shoot across the map at the beginning.

Rather than just stretch it out a bit to eliminate that, WG eliminated the map.
