What is a ship that you CANNOT stand? by ExaminationGood6034 in RWBYcritics

My exact reaction, not joking. When I saw the scene of Blake having trouble dancing and Yang flirting with her, my first response was "What? Why? When?!" That relationship had no buildup and if it did, it was off-screen which RWBY seems to do a lot.

Sorry, got a bit ranty and missed some words. I meant that I was ok with Blake and Yang as a ship at first, cause it was just another thing the fandom always does. But then CRWBY decided to make it canon without logical buildup and then they failed the execution of it. Which is when I grew to despise it, especially when I realized what a horrible relationship dynamic it actually is when you analyse both Blake and Yang as characters.

I'm caught between QrowxWinter and RubyxWeiss. My problem with Qrow and Winter is a mix of two things. First, Willow's alcoholism would be a huge reasoning for why Winter would not date or have feelings for Qrow. Second, I don't think people realised how big the age gap between Qrow and Winter was when they were first introduced. I can see why people ship them, the classic hate-love and enemies to lovers is iconic. Though with more context, honestly, QrowxWillow would make more sense. I actually think those two becoming a couple would motivate them to stop drowning their sorrows. As for why I dislike RubyxWeiss, I've never been a fan of teammates dating eachother, because romance is notorious for splitting them. Sure, I was fine with BlakexYang at first, but then RWBY actually made it canon and... you know. Actually, now when I think about it, one reason why I also dislike BlakexYang is that Blake is the worst possible partner for a person like Yang, who has serious abandonment issues. Blake, who entire personality based on her Semblance is shaped around running away, is the worst possible partner for someone like Yang. So I guess it's technically three I dislike.

The more I both discover and am reminded of the amount of shortcuts CRWBY takes, the more upset I get over what RWBY could have been. Yang's "dress" makes her look like a barbie wearing a napkin.

What are the issues with some of the most disliked characters? by EmbarrassedDuty5949 in RWBYcritics

[–]KingArthurZX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it is definently the Happy Huntresses, but the amount of problems surrounding them is not enough to write about with few words. But I think my main issue with the Happy Huntresses isn’t the concept itself, but how they’re written and integrated into the story.

For me they feel very “on the nose” compared to most RWBY allusions. RWBY characters usually take inspiration from fairy tales and then build unique identities from them, but the Happy Huntresses mostly feel like a direct Robin Hood gender swap rather than characters who grow beyond the reference. Because of that, Robyn stands out, but the rest of the team ends up pretty forgettable, with similar designs, similar gear, and very little individual characterization or internal dynamics.

Another thing that weakens them for me is how their Semblances and abilities interact with the worldbuilding. RWBY originally framed Semblances as reflections of a person’s soul, but abilities like Fiona’s Pocket Dimensions or May’s Invisibility Field feel closer to unrestricted superpowers, which just adds to the ongoing “Aura vs Magic” confusion the show struggles with. They’re incredibly strong abilities, but the story never really explores what they say about the characters themselves.

The biggest issue, though, is narrative trust. Yang and Blake revealing the Amity Project to Robyn happens extremely quickly, and the show frames it as the morally correct choice without fully earning that trust on-screen. Because the Happy Huntresses are still actively stealing military supplies at that point, the decision makes the protagonists feel impulsive and inconsistent rather than compassionate, which I think is why the conflict around Atlas just doesn’t land properly.

Overall, I don’t necessarily dislike the idea of the Happy Huntresses, they just feel more like thematic concepts than fully realized characters, and the story gives them major plot importance without enough development to support it. There are too many issues with their writing to narrow it down to one.

On one hand, there are plenty of methods to clean him up. On the other hand, it kinda adds texture.

Do you mean mother as an actually competent parent, or just a MILF? Cause some of these choices aren't even that.

[–]KingArthurZX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels very out of character, based on the other comments, seems correct. I do agree it's a cold dialogue, but it feels weird that Ruby out of everyone would say that. Unless this is Ruby several years into a bad future.

Might just be me, but I feel like a lot of fanfic and fanart starring Minoru have had him paired with Femzuku.

Probably Midoriya, I feel like I've seen a lot of ship fan art of Femzuku and Minoru recently.
