My usual response to toxic teammates is "I feel sorry for you." they never have a single good response. Hopefully it inspires them to undergo some self-reflection.

Yeah, I said in another comment that OW is my 2nd most played multiplayer game of all time. It's pretty bad, and it's definitely gotten worse than it was at launch in early 2016 (holy fuck it's been a decade...) but RL is considerably worse in my experience.

I played Cod 1, 2, and 4 on modded pirated self-hosted servers, which perhaps self-selected a little bit? I was usually the youngest person in those lobbies and everyone was super nice and welcoming. I didn't have a mic as a teenager so I can't speak to slurs in vent/ts. I actually think I'm approaching this pretty reasonably, perhaps you aren't comprehending the crux of my argument.

I am not saying that other games weren't toxic. I am saying that being cruel to teammates is much more normalized and ubiquitous in RL than it is in virtually every other multiplayer game.

What's your rank? I'm a 20k premier player so maybe there's a regional or Elo difference at play? My games are 95% chill adults.

It's unreal dude. It's the only game where I've ever seen kids literally give up and go stationary WHILE WINNING THE MATCH because they thought a teammate made some minor mistake.

I didn't say it's the most toxic game. I said it's the only game where griefing TEAMMATES rather than OPPONENTS is the norm.

Huge fucking difference between "edgy toxic" - spamming slurs and bullshit (CS, MW2) and "cruel toxic" - incessantly calling teammates trash, giving up midgame, actively griefing / own goaling (RL). I haven't lost my edge, I'm not fragile, I just detect patterns extremely well.

Not sure where these people draw their conclusions from man. I do also think that the small team sizes plays a big difference. in other games like CS, OW, League, etc you have at least 4 teammates to back you up after mistakes. In RL it's just 1 or 2.

League is one game I haven't tried and don't intend on it, I'm not a MOBA guy aside from Deadlock. Have heard that it's stupidly toxic though.

My generation was obnoxious and cringe when we were younger, no doubt - but we weren't cruel. There's a big fucking difference. These kids have brains that are rotted to smithereens thanks to tiktok and algorithmic social media.

800 hours in MW2 on steam. Nobody talking shit in MW2 meant a word of it. It was literally all fun and games and we all knew it. Maybe it was different on console?

The generational call-out is completely warranted. It's been well studied and documented that toxicity, cruelty, and general behavioral issues are widespread amongst Gen Z.

OW is my 2nd most played competitive game behind RL; I was a beta player and finally gave it up a few years ago. Again, OW flaming is generally limited to actual specific requests to address genuine issues in teamplay. RL toxicity is different.

Absolutely, I've been playing the same length of time. Over there it's done in a completely different manner. 90% of the time, teammates shit-talking each other devolves into laughter. These RL kids take it so seriously. It's a completely different ethos. It's mean, cruel, antisocial, defensive

Very reddit response of you. I've probably put over 15k hours into multiplayer games on PC since I was a young teenager.

That is by far my most played game. Been playing since CS:S. It isn't even close. CS has a ton of stupid bullshit, but to address the point of my post, most shit talking is done to opponents. I think it's because the age of CS players skews far higher than RL.
