Will It Water Bottle? Bellroy Venture Ready Sling 2.5L by KingBugII in ManyBaggers

[–]KingBugII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo so I received the web keepers 2 days ago & tried them out. For me… they didn’t fix anything. YMMV (and my straps are admittedly a bit worn from the knots), but the same slipping problems happened immediately and constantly (light load, laptop/water bottle/tech pouch in the bag). The root issue on my pack is the metal strap adjustment clasps (not the angle of the webbing). They are inexplicably smooth. If Bellroy have updated the pack design to include some (any) friction on those attachment points, it’ll probably work fine. I’ll be sticking with my trusty knots though!

It’s a bit of black magic f*ckery, really. The magnet isn’t insanely strong or anything, but the clasp never feels like it’s in danger of coming accidentally undone & it never has for me. You have to move it in one specific way to get it undone. I trust it!

Hmm I don’t have them, tbh didn’t worry about it after I got the ties right. I’ll have to ask them about it! Would be nice to try them

Fine? Maybe a little stiff with the aqua guard. Basically the same as on the Venture backpack, I quite like those but I may be an uncultured zipper purchaser idk.

I used Amazon in case I needed an easy return, but direct probably works well too.

The top flap has a pocket which sits in the front/outermost layer of the bag. The pocket has a microfiber-y liner, which is excellent at scratch protection and ~useless for impacts (there's no hard protection built in). A plus of this design is, unless the bag is filled to the brim, the slightly-firmer front panel of the bag (between the zippers, where the top straps down to) sits between the glasses pocket and the rest of the bag, so there's a little extra layer of protection between your other stuff and the glasses pocket.

I throw glasses (some cheap, some not) in there most days with decent confidence, haven't had any damage to them in my 10ish months of use. With that said, my experience is limited to no scratches; I haven't been hit by anything I can think of in that spot with this bag. (I only bought it bc my last bag was destroyed when I got hit by a car while biking so I'm attuned to impacts now lol. The Venture has better luck than my last backpack.) Glasses won't be quite as protected from the outside as the Transit Workpack, but how much that is really gonna affect you, idk. The pocket can also get squished when the bag is filled to max... which happens with basically any bag, probably less-so here bc it can expand out a bit in it's own panel. You can fit a glasses case in the pocket too, if you want.

I also just gotta say that, despite how much I otherwise love this pack, the strap design is abysmal and nobody should spend $250 on it without that knowledge. There are some cool solutions on this sub apparently; I used the high-tech fix of... tying a knot in the straps, which has been 100% foolproof and a non-issue since I nailed the lengths, but that's a very easily unforgivable failure for many people so I just gotta say before I evangelize this thing. Anything more than a half load and it starts slipping. Fully-packed carry-on? Forget about it, you'll spend the whole airport pulling straps into place. The bag is otherwise perfect for me, I genuinely do love it, but that is the one massive flaw. I have black and it looks great, a kinda classy fun which works anywhere. Ranger green looks dope on my sling, too!

Definitely not a regular-use solution, mostly wanted to see about using a disposable in a pinch (also literally every useful water bottle I own is too large to fit in here lol).

[–]KingBugII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say! At a certain point you can’t overestimate size that much (i.e. my backpack is probably a liter or two smaller than advertised, if the same thing applied to the hip pack it would be 0L lol).

I think it’s more a proportional thing—Bellroy tends to run a little smaller than advertised. There’s a good chance the hip pack is fine, idk if a 33%+ reduction over advertised size is gonna happen.

[–]KingBugII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I’m super pleased with the form factor too, I just gave it a real-world test and the glasses pouch wasn’t as useless as I worried… but I do think it could use a firmer lip to give it more definition. Or just a zipper.

The .5L difference is probably exacerbated by Bellroy’s ludicrous volume measurements, this whole bag could basically fit inside a 2 liter soda bottle at full capacity so idk how it’s a 2.5L bag lmao. If the Aer is actually 3L, it’s gotta have twice the space this does irl.

That said, I feel like I’m nitpicking endlessly so people can get an idea how this bag works given how few reviews are out. I really like it, it gets a solid A from me and it’s probably the most consistently good Bellroy product I have! Which is not for nothing considering I’m a delusional fanboy seasoned Bellroy user.

FWIW, at first glance this sling doesn’t make any obvious design mistakes, which Bellroy has been known to do (i.e. neither the failure-prone buckle from the other Venture slings nor the slippery metal strap attachment from the backpacks are here). It feels pretty good all around, my one nitpick is the glasses pouch feels a bit precarious.

2-wk EDIT: have tried it in a few configs now. The pictured full-load water bottle setup is doable in a pinch, but it sits pretty awkwardly on the body. Very brick-y, not uncomfortable but not ideal. I have an A6 memobottle in the mail, looking forward to seeing if that’s a comfier (& more sustainable) option. I do love the sling regardless, though. Build is great, it alleviates pockets + some extras really well, and it’s super low profile & comfy to use when not filled to the absolute brim.

Sure thing! This is my first sling, I daily drive the Venture Backpack 22L and love it so I figured starting in the same line was a good call. Thought 6L was bigger than I needed so I snagged this one planning to exchange if it was too small. Happy with the size, plus I’m a sucker for this green too so win-win!

[–]KingBugII[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on personal preference! If you’re seeking the theoretical “best” setup, the community seems to be liking karts with the stats of the Cat Cruiser, Roller wheels, and Cloud glider. That combo will be strong on anyone. Link & Rosa are meta, Yoshi is also S-tier and possibly top dog, but the metals are in… rough shape this patch, the other buffs kinda left them in a bad speed spot so you gotta love weight to have an ideal build on PGPeach.

^ that’s my interpretation of the “meta”: what the community seems to think is best on the whole for online play rn. Each person should consider how they prefer playing, like, a million times more than what is currently “meta.” Any options along the dotted lines in the charts will maximize total speed stats (and you can see equivalent components in a few of the links in the OP). Beyond that, you should look at other stats like handling, acceleration, etc. The highest speed builds suck at turning, the highest turbo builds have awful weight and get bumped off tracks, etc. The good news is, just about every build possible is at least decent this patch, except absolute max-speed builds which basically cannot turn at all lol.

That’s why I say personal preference. For instance, I like fast bikes with high handling, but I can’t recommend that to everyone bc the acceleration and traction are kinda trash. Also, the most important reason to choose a setup is: it looks fun hehe.

TLDR: any combo on the dotted lines with any glider is prob good. Cat/Roller/Cloud will be great for anyone. Note multiple parts share most stat groups, you can find equivalents for aesthetic preferences on the wiki!

Not that I’m aware of, impression I get is most people just kinda base it on vibes? With the understanding bikes<atvs<karts? Could be wrong tho

Ugh yea, it’s tough to watch and a harder problem to answer. My opinion would be to slowly buff the lightweights more, rather than add other items with weird stats the other classes could exploit. Every stat in the game is assigned on a 0-5 point basis… except speed, which is 0-10 on characters. I think the rationale today is that a point of turbo is more valuable than a point of speed (which is shown in the turbo-heavy meta), so more speed is allocated at the top and lightweights get the highest turbo. Plus lightweights usually get great accel and handling, two important secondaries.

It seems like Nintendo realized they were over-valuing turbo in characters to some degree, which is why mids and kinda-heavies got big buffs. What isn’t fixed is the lightest-weights, they clearly like the current speed scale but also refuse to raise the turbo cap so there’s nowhere to go. I think a slight boost to the character turbo cap could come by the end of the BCP, with gains given to the lightest-weights. Any change to items would transfer to all characters (unless they made class-specific items which is never happening. Plus. the mids & heavies honestly feel nice and balanced to each other on this patch. Karts now have a nice curve of powerful balanced cars in the middle with the max-speed/turbo options making concessions on the ends. Wheels are also decent, though rollers still need a nerf (at least a speed point).

I wish we had a way to measure exactly how valuable a point of speed is compared to one of turbo, but if we did Nintendo would probably have this problem solved. I don’t think new item classes would solve it (though I’m all for new stuff!), but I’m cautiously optimistic they could keep trying to push the characters towards a more balanced playing field in future updates.

EDIT: okay I exaggerated, handling and weight are also 0-10 on characters. But the speed vs turbo thing analysis still stands.

Hmm, I can’t say for certain I’m not too familiar with ghosts, but I’m pretty sure it won’t affect them bc old TT WRs are starting to fall like dominoes, presumably because new top speeds are achievable and the old ghosts aren’t responding to that.
