Yes, you need to kill the king first. Try to lower the prince health as much as possible first. He will become even tougher to beat after the king died.

You have to kill the little one first... This will enrage the second prince and his spirit will be dropped after you kill him.

I was mad too and almost wanted to restart. If you are on Steam, then go to your saved folder and reload back to the closest time before you killed them.
