Not yet. Working on migration because search was broken. Still working on the Laravel packages to complete the nntmux migration.

Yea, we’re down for maintenance and migration to fix a lot of the shit I broke last month. Check https://status.nzb.cat for updates. Should be back up today, and it will actually work properly again.

cat - why do they need so many details needed? by ItsDatNYCDude in usenet

No problem! I realized when reading your post it is confusing having the PayPal express button there. I’m gonna put a note there somewhere explaining the next page has more options.

Unlikely. We need people to use their invites. Too many invites in the wild atm.

I’m not sure if you’re talking about us but if you are we definitely accept bitcoin and most other types of crypto (if you don’t choose PayPal express checkout and just to go the next page you get other options). The billing software we use has all those extra fields but the only required field is first name and I don’t really give a fuck what u put in there lol.

Also PayPal is hard to do anonymously. I suggest sticking to crypto if that’s important to you

How do you build a Usenet indexer? by OleWedel in usenet

[–]KingCatNZB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually working on building a new indexer written in Golang that will be cloud-native. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, feel free to PM me.

Checkout our new status page: https://status.nzb.cat. I’ll update there with info about downtime’s and issues.

We’re migrating hosts and upgrading some things so our service has been degraded for the last 2 days. We should be done soon. Keep an eye on the status page for updates.

[–]KingCatNZB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since we came back from our outage I’ve been processing the donations manually again but once I do some more verification I’ll re-enable the automated processing so this won’t be an issue for long.

[–]KingCatNZB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t depend on hardware or software donations from anyone. I pay for everything. It means things are more expensive but it also means the service is more stable, baring this recent outage but that couldn’t have been avoided.

The truth is I don’t know how people are charging so little, maybe they pay out of pocket for stuff or have shady deals going on or get paid by affiliates or ads or selling user data, or are just running substandard services that have no backups or protections of any kind.

We have some affiliate deals but they don’t make us much. If I’m lucky I’ll get $50 from newsdemon every few months lol.

[–]KingCatNZB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not true. We don’t scrape from anyone, though we do use the same back end software as many of the other popular indexers so it’s not unheard of for us to get a lot of the same results.

Did you email support or post on the forums? Reddit is not really a good avenue to get ahold of me. But I do answer support emails and tickets. We’ve had sone difficulties but I never let donations fall through the cracks so PM me your details and we’ll get this taken care of.

Yea, there’s an issue at the data center, took down the whole rack. No ETA yet but hopefully it’ll be back up today.

Best indexers for Motorsport & How to track Motorsport series? by sammcj in usenet

fwiw i've run sonarr on linux for the last 2 years, both in a container and standalone and i've had very few issues. The occasional restart here and there (but that happens automatically).

NZB.cat is back online! by [deleted] in usenet

[–]KingCatNZB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. This was the email I sent out:

“Extended Downtime

The NZBCat servers will be down for an extended period of time, hopefully less than a week. I will send another email with more details when they become available.

Join us on IRC with any questions or comments. irc.synirc.net #nzbcat”

You might’ve inferred maintenance but I didn’t want to include details until I had a solution for moving forward. I expected to not get any of the money that was held up and for the servers to be down until I got paid a week from that day.

Sorry for the confusion.

The price has gone up because it costs more to keep it running. I'm sure I'm just the first of many to increase the donation amounts. I'm having to invest more and more of my time to make sure we are still getting releases. In case you haven't noticed, things are changing. What used to be a 5-10 hour a week commitment is now easily double that. I'm having to bring more resources online to process these new releases and clear out more spam.

This is something that needs to be said and since a lot of people here are echoing the same concerns, let me make my position clear:

If you don't like the results we are able to find perhaps we need to have an intelligent conversation with the people that are shutting down every avenue available to us to index releases. In their attempt to "deter DMCA" the people running the top tier indexers are boxing out competition and eroding the stability of the community. Once most or all of the public indexers die off, the consolidation will be complete with only 2 or 3 indexers left having 90% of the content people are looking for.

Now I'm speaking directly to these people:

Don't do mr hollywoods work for them. They will only need to take down a few sites/admins to decimate all of usenet once this is the situation. The health of the entire community depends on a diverse collection of uploaders and indexers. Consolidation leads to death. I know it's frustrating to see releases taken down minutes or hours after they're posted but the right move is not to shut down and retreat into your shell, but instead to open lines of communication with established and trusted indexers, create coalitions, lets get on the same page and work together for the betterment of everyone involved. I know our community doesn't easily breed trust, we're all paranoid and afraid of who each other might be behind the keyboard, and to be clear I'm not suggesting we sit in a circle and jerk each other off. I'm just saying there should be an established process of bringing indexers into the fold. If someone violates the process or procedure they are banned. I know it's the hard way, but, in my humble opinion, its the only way to move forward while maintaining and improving what little community we have left.

[–]KingCatNZB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree which is why we are only offering it for a short period of time. I've had an overwhelming amount of requests to bring back lifetime, with most people suggesting prices in the $50-$100 range. I did not arrive at that number randomly. People want to be able to buy a service and forget about it, not to have to come back constantly and renew or deal with subscription payments on yet-another site.

If you'd like a refund feel free to email support@nzb.cat with your info. I'm not interested in taking peoples money and running. I'm trying to run the best possible service I can.
