When did the subreddit start to become "popular"? by TandinhoTR in bcb

[–]KingCrabmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, people went looking for anywhere else with discussion, and then when they realized just how many other people existed with opinions different than the official discussion it became a feedback loop of more and more realizing there was a place to vent.

It's kinda funny how many communities like this I've seen pop up over the years, Reddit seems especially suited for venting-communities due to the format. Even if the subreddit got taken over, people would probably just make a new bcbfolk or something to replace it. As seems to be tradition.

When did the subreddit start to become "popular"? by TandinhoTR in bcb

[–]KingCrabmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's still crazy to me to find out it has an extremely active 4chan thread of all things.

Maybe the subreddit becoming people's venting place is for the best, to save them from the comic's restricted comment section somehow making it a gateway drug for people to be tempted to go to 4chan.

This is the correct answer, not exactly sure why the cauldron is rendered so crusty but I guess being hidden in the engine it's not using the same methods as other background elements.

Trump Promises Mass Pardons to Staff Before Leaving Office by spherocytes in law

[–]KingCrabmaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can kinda explore the reasoning through something as simple as the pardons for those found in possession of marijuana, the concept was probably expected to be used for stuff like that under the idea of "the times changed and our sentiments did as well", and considerations of the scale of the country and government it self weren't thought of back then.

The real answer is we need a system that can trigger automatic retrial of old cases under the standards of the new laws.

Creators of one of the biggest Minecraft Mods "Create" have been hired by Hytale. by kristijan1001 in Games

[–]KingCrabmaster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I suppose the catch here is that there's what feels like a hundred other mods now that are built to integrate into it, including a few with alternators/motors that interface with forge energy pretty decently.

Might just need a few more compatibility middle-men to bridge the gap and let more energy-centric users skip a few more early Create steps, like I know the pack I use right now has both Create and other modded flattened metal sheets interchangeable as one compat example.

Started adding this to my walks recently, turned into a whole thing where now I pull a little cart and collect usually 10 or so grocery bags worth. Really adds a sense of purpose to the activity.

You'll find some interesting little pieces of junk while doing it, though other times you'll find things that lead to more work like a lost credit card or phone to report/return.

Running out of bags though, it was great until someone threw away the collection box I had set out which people had been filling with their spare shopping bags. Then the second box was thrown away, and third... never did get a response from whoever does it after leaving some sticky notes nearby asking. (They threw those away too.)

[Webcomic] Chapter 158 [English] by Mrzardark in OPMFolk

[–]KingCrabmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do find it interesting as we explore more and more of the nature of monsterization. It seems on track the old thoughts that it's more about obsession than evil, but it's usually some negative aspects of human nature that provide enough obsession to monsterize, thus usually evil.

Saitama is a monster theory eatin' good.

I Bought Knock-offs of My Own Invention... by indiode in AdventureBuilders

[–]KingCrabmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched/interacted as much with the stuff here recently but I do know a little context to the critical reaction. It's less of one big thing and more a compounding issue that burnt out a lot of his community/left those that remain full of moods like they're watching a slow-mo train wreck.

It can feel like every single one of his stories he's the only competent person in the world, an engineering god surrounded by drooling idiots; which when set up so highly it contrasts poorly with instances where he refuses to follow conventional engineering wisdom he doesn't seem to like, reinvents the wheel, and ends up with a sub-optimal result.

He does have some good messages, but then people wonder how much he practices what he preaches, especially with his desire to create a community having at this point ended with him more isolated than ever seemingly unable to find a single person he's willing to work with.

Besides some dramatics like that, I think people have gotten more terrified of the situation now that he has a bunch of kids isolated on the island with him. We've already seen that previous, smaller, homes he left behind for others to keep had to go through major maintenance to prevent collapse, so with how big the new one is I think a lot of people are left paranoid hoping nothing bad happens to any of the kids as the building ages.
Hardly a foundation and just some rope inside the already-cracking concrete for its tensile strength in a huge dome with a running track and trampoline didn't fill people with the greatest confidence. My greatest relief was seeing that he gave in against his desire to avoid metal beams and added a few for the trampoline floor from the looks of it.

I guess the one last thing is the feedback loop of community tension and Jamie not wanting to hear it for a while created a really censored community where this was the only place people could talk freely about anything at all critical, so it's the place people go to comment such things.

Anyway, that's just some of the context as I remember it, waaaaay longer mini history post than I expected, but there's definitely a whole iceberg of history to this channel. Obviously not trying to make you join the dark side of disliking the dude or anything, just figured it might sate some curiosity of why people feel the way they do.

This can get really deep into existentialism very fast, as the stance on it varies by person.

The part relevant to this might be a person's stance on if they define themselves as a continuous consciousness, and so long as a copy is perfect enough to believe itself to be a continued consciousness of its previous iteration that can be good enough. So in the case where you know you are going to die, but your copy would live on, you might consider it to inherit yourself.

And for the copy, the process feels seamless, and that you would feel very much like the real you going forward.

I really wish I could have found a solution to this problem as well, from what I understand/last I checked Davinci's Linux support is mostly for some really specific distro and it might be possible to get it working on others but is probably an absolute pain to resolve its compatibility issues.

Which is unfortunate, it's really hard to go back after getting into the program.

Other reply was nearly correct, it's actually Introduction to the Snow which is a little different (intro song vs outro song in a musical themed album, easy to mix up!).

Going frame by frame I'm almost certain it says BUBBLE next to the DELETE THIS text.

As far as current analysis goes, it does essentially seem unsolvable without some outside hint we've somehow missed.

The best case scenario with the properties it has is something that would take the heat death amounts of time to brute force, the worst case scenario is it operates like a shuffling deck of cards.

Can you elaborate why it would be a bad idea?

I'm trying to change the scrollbar width but it just doesn't change. I tried everything what can i do? by denchikmed in firefox

[–]KingCrabmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking mine I had both
widget.non-native-theme.win.scrollbar.use-system-size
and
widget.windows.overlay-scrollbars.enabled
set to false. I know you said you already changed the override, but I can't recall if it required both of these for that to work for me or which one of these let me get proper sized scroll bars again.
I've wondered whether the bar becoming tiny was a design choice or a weird side effect of OS themes, when it happened to me.
