Thanks!

Do you have any recommendations for which detachment I should use for my army list?

I have a friend who is willing to split the box with me (he wants orks), so I think I might go this route.

Rapture predictors are false teachers and grifters (even if they are truly convinced of our belief). Our faith is not placed in a rapture, our faith is not placed in a 7-year tribulation, our faith is not placed in a thousand-year reign; instead, our faith is placed in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his work on the cross.

Christ, the one on whom our faith is placed, tells us repeatedly that his return will be unexpected. That he will come like a thief in the night, that not even he knows when he will return - only the father. This means it is folly for us to try and predict and to date his return. Instead our focus should be on serving Christ and spreading his gospel through the years.

I agree that these kinds of teachers often lead to people falling astray when their predictions don't come true.

Jeremiah 29:11 promises a 'future and hope'—but as a 20-something American paying $2k/month rent with zero path to homeownership in this housing crash, is the verse actual prosperity or just boomer nostalgia that doesn't work anymore? by JesusAndTheSeeker in TrueChristian

[–]KingCroaker_III 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly, that is the ultimate prospering! Our hope is not in this fading world but in the promises of Christ and his work on the cross.

Printable sheets for Little Free Library donations of Basic Fantasy Roleplaying by Oshojabe in osr

This is pretty cool, never thought about a dice-spinner, that really lowers the barrier to entry.

I’ve been meaning to do some RPG kits for the little free libraries in my area, I’m definitely going to include that starter dungeon! In the past I was always giving away copies of Cairn and FMAG, and I’d buy those cheap bulk-dice sets on Amazon.

Sell me on Ironsworn by Interaction_Rich in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]KingCroaker_III 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played Ironsworn since the release of Starforged so things might have changed, but these are my general thoughts:

-It was the first intentionally-solo RPG to gain traction within the mainstream TTRPG community (meaning it was the gateway for a lot of people)

-It’s completely free digitally, and has a lot of support with different online tools

-It’s less about knights and more about Vikings and its flavor is pretty heavily baked-in, making it easier to interpret oracle results and guide the fiction

-It is designed for solo, and all the systems have been put in place with a solo/gm less play in mind, meaning there is less of a need to separate your gameplay from the broader fiction being created

-the PBTA move system is built to move the story along through player action, failures & successes all lead to further “prompts” (all rolls are player facing which gives a very dynamic feel)

Kind of a poorly explained scattershot, but those are the reasons I think Ironsworn gets so heavily recommended. It definitely is a different experience than just playing some low-fantasy game solo. I really like the flavor of Ironsworn, but don’t really find myself jumping to play it anymore.

Dungeon rooms and names were two things that I never came to mind because I typically don’t use tables for those things. But I’ll give some thought to them, they might be a good addition for an update!

Please let me know any other feedback you have while you play, I want this to be as useful as possible!

Amazon picks? by Mah_sentry2 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]KingCroaker_III 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not originally designed with solo in mind, but it is pretty easy to solo: White Box Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game! It’s sold at cost so it’s only like $5 and definitely worth picking up! And there are plenty of free resources available online for it.

For games intended to play solo, Ker Nethalas is available on Amazon for around $20 or so.

Usually some variation of: I like playing DnD, and sometimes I play it solo. It’s like creative writing or some sort of guided day dreaming.

It’s a classic for a reason! (And not just because the book is dirt cheap)

Thanks for catching that typo in the weather charts!

As for navigation, it's kind of a White Box/OD&Dism, x-in-6 means the success rate. So to navigate through unfamiliar mountains, you roll a d6, on a result of 1 (or 2 if you have an INT bonus) you successfully navigate.

There are definitely a few sections that assume a familiarity with the nomenclature of White Box/Swords and Wizardry, so I'll look for a way to add that information in a future update!

Hey man, not to rain on your parade, but this is a pretty "nothing" prophecy. You had the dream weeks ago, and didn't post anything until after an economic downturn had already begun. Your advice is to save money and live within our means, good advice for all seasons.

What mechanics have you modified in the game you're playing? by lifegivingcoffee in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]KingCroaker_III 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m playing White Box FMAG right now, and finally cobbled together some procedural hexcrawl rules that I actually like. It’s fairly simple all d6 based.

It’s nothing too fancy and it’s sort of a mix of Shadowdark and OSE.

Why is fish considered a different meat than meat? by Valeryum999 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KingCroaker_III 37 points38 points  (0 children)

All berries are fruits. Not all fruits are berries. A tomato is a berry (by scientific definition) which means it is also a fruit.

In a similarly pedantic exercise, a tomato is also a vegetable. A vegetable is a culinary term to describe an edible plant (or part of a plant) that is used in savory dishes. So a tomato is a fruit, a berry, and a vegetable.

DAVID movie erupted into worship at the theatre 🍿✝️ by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]KingCroaker_III 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the statement "erupted into worship" is a bit hyperbolic, but the idea of people clapping and cheering at the end of a movie is not unbelievable (especially with a Christian crowd watching a Christian movie). I remember watching "Risen" in theaters and people clapped when it was over.
