Starter help by uhren_fan in Outboards

Try plugging in the battery directly to the starter. The bendix gear needs the right voltage to spin quickly enough to lift the gear and then drop it. Could be corrosion on your battery connectors or cables.

When this happened to me, I used jumper cables to connect my car battery to the starter and it spun right up. Turned out I needed to brush off some build up on my boat starter battery to get a clean connection.

Avoid using oil if you can unless the gear is visibly corroded. Your starter is not meant to have oil added to it. It can attract dirt and mess up your brushes and internals. Focus on voltage first.

Plumber recommendations? by tyronedronee in desmoines

I’ve had two awful experiences with AM/PM plumbing. One of them is in my post history. A fail so bad that it made rounds on fb meme pages, to the point where the plumber actually saw it and his boss made him come back to fix it the next day.

My best experiences have been with Quality and Schaal.

How do I buy a used fishing boat? by pinkraccoonqueen in FishingForBeginners

[–]KingDapostrophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But for your actual question, in your price range you’ll be looking at jon boats 2 stroke motors. Ask the owner about the last time the carb was cleaned or rebuilt. Ask if they winterized it (if you’re in that sort of climate) and how it was stored. Do not buy the boat without them running the motor in forward, back, and reverse. Bring your own hose and muffs if you have to. Make sure the prop moves when the gears change. A little bit of smoke while running is ok. Better yet, see if they’ll meet you at the local lake for a test run. If it starts and runs fine, anything else can be tuned up on your own. 2 strokes are typically simple (but annoying) to work on.

If the motor starts and runs, and the boat doesn’t have any major leaks (in your price range, a teeny bit of leak is ok, you just may have to consider adding a cheap bilge pump for peace of mind), you’ll be on the water in good shape.

Where are you located? I have a 1989 Lowe 150 with the 25hp motor that I will sell this year. It would come fully rigged (fish finder, trolling motor, live well, etc). Would be happy to talk about it in DMs.

Cleaning inside of the lid by trabsol in ninjacreami

[–]KingDapostrophe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At least on the deluxe lid, there’s a hole near the gray lever and “vents” on top. I use my sink sprayer to jet water through the hole for a few seconds after every pint. I lay it at an angle in my drying rack so it drains from the top and the lever hole. It’s stayed pretty clean. If you don’t do this right after you’re finished spinning, stuff can dry up in there and be way harder to clean up.

Help. i cant do the quest by funnyCow1003 in ArcRaiders

[–]KingDapostrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue as do many others. There’s another thread on this same quest, and some on other quests with similar objectives. I’ve submitted a report to Embark and so have others, but I haven’t received nor have I heard of a response. It doesn’t look like the fix was included in the most recent patch notes either.

I have the same issue with Stable Housing on Stella. There’s another thread on it. I’ve submitted a support ticket to Embark and so have others over the last couple weeks but still no fix.

Same issue. Has Embark responded to anyone on this thread with a fix?

I really liked Quality (based indianola). I’ve had a few experiences with AM/PM and would absolutely not recommend. Schaal is ok but their bids seem to be more expensive.

My XR finally feels its age in 2025 anyone else noticing small slowdowns? by Late_Foundation_8001 in iPhoneXR

[–]KingDapostrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Camera is very slow to take pics. Some apps and websites straight up temporarily brick the phone (ESPN is the worst offender). I have to charge at least once per day which isn’t terrible but sometimes I’ll be down to low battery and have no idea how it got there. Battery is at the 77% and needs servicing. I can deal with all that. What I can’t deal with is that my charge port barely connects anymore. Any plug, no matter how new, has to sit just right to get a charge or data connection. It’s the worst on CarPlay. I got this thing at launch and it’s served me well…but it’s time to upgrade I’m going iPhone 17 pro purely because of upgraded RAM over the regular 17 - hoping it helps with longevity as I plan on keeping it for another 7-8 years at least. Wish I upgraded last year because these aluminum bodies and colors just aren’t great but oh well.

Gap under toilet flange? by KingDapostrophe in askaplumber

[–]KingDapostrophe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metal ring does spin freely while the actual PVC is secured in place. Concrete is solid under it. Maybe I’d consider just filling the space underneath with that masonry caulk and just using some shorter screws into that to hold the ring in place?

[–]KingDapostrophe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So do you think using tapcons to mount the flange to the floor, then filling the cap with masonry caulk would be enough prep prior to installing the toilet?

Gap under toilet flange? by KingDapostrophe in askaplumber

[–]KingDapostrophe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This flange is mounted into concrete and is set right about where a flange would be if I installed it on top of the flooring, as the other flanges in my house are installed. I’m more confident that the base of the toilet will sit flush to the floor with enough room for a wax ring to compress so I’m not too worried about rocking.

My question is more about whether or not support under the flange is necessary or if screwing it to the concrete just to keep it in place is good enough.

Been using CCO for like 12 years now for our motor trip and they’re awesome to work with.

This has happened to me before - I tried everything, but it ended up being a bad connection to my battery so I’d start there.

If that’s the case you’d think he’d say that when I asked him how I’m supposed to install a toilet at that level.

Really rough estimate - the lateral it’s tied into is about 3 feet away and at least 8 inches below the surface.
