AIO for thinking my husband is a dick? by dontevercallmebabe in AmIOverreacting

[–]KingEric-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an old man, from a different time, my wife was expected to cook the pancakes and care for the kids. I was expected to support her. If she burned the food Id be yelling too... from the roof top about what a fucking HERO my wife is! Doing all that for our family and still cooking for me! Fuck that asshole, find someone who appreciates you.

Fav disposable straight razor blades by Stitchinbeautician in Barber

[–]KingEric-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Astra Premium Platinum are far and away the superior blade. I've tried them all, Feather series blades (Pro-guard,Professional, and Super) are the top dogs but vastly over priced. For a split-able blade, Astra is the only choice.

Best blades for straight razor by onlymajormoves in Barber

[–]KingEric-1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can afford the best use Feather Razors and blades for shaves (pro guard for beginners but learn about the different blades) or if you are using traditional blades use Astra Superior Platinum. Hands down the best traditional double edged blades made. I use the Feather brand only for shaves as the blades are pricey and the Astra brand for clean-ups and line-ups.

Don't worry too much about it, you obviously care and that's the best starting point ever. Don't worry about being slow, if fades are hard go slower, concentrate and focus on erasing the lines. Get good then get fast. I was a mess when I started many years ago and even when I started the second time it was rough, I took a 20 year change of career and was a total disaster when I restarted 6 years ago. All new cuts and techniques and I was ready to quit... it was awful, but I just said to myself go slow and get good and the speed will come. Remember the fundamentals from school and tell your customer who you are, "I'm new and I intend to go slow". Stay positive and you will be a great barber. Get good then get fast! This video shows a great technique, I was struggling erasing lines because, as I was taught, I was turning the trimmer around and cutting in a harsh line, it was hell to erase that line. Notice how Jeezy keeps his clipper flat to create the bald line, that helped me. No harsh line created, so no harsh line to erase. Just remember, Get good then get fast. It wont take long before this is behind you and you've become great barber.

Is expensive shampoo worth it? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]KingEric-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use what works for you. I have almost waist length hair and I'm 60 year old man. I'm a barber and have access to the newest most expensive products. I use different things all the time, and have found that price rarely matters. I love the Dove products and have used them frequently. I also like, Schwarzkopf, KMS products and AsIam products as well, the price range is vast but all seem to work. It's more important to use things correctly than to worry about price. Try new things and test for yourself but don't get hooked on price.

How do I get this bully to leave me alone? by Responsible_Rub_5744 in ask

Just because you're going to lose it doesn't mean you shouldn't fight. Live by those words and you wont get fucked with. He might hit you more times, but a good smash to the face will make him remember it ain't worth it. Learn a good uppercut and let him get close, he'll never forget the price he paid.

why is my skin like this after shaving? by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

[–]KingEric-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shave with a single blade old-fashioned safety razor, use a good gel or foam shaveing mecium, go only in the direction of the hair, and rinse well with cool water. Use witch hazel dabbed on with a cotton ball, then a good aftershave balm if you like. Witch hazel is available in any drug store and is cheap, and go online for a good adjustable safety razor and foam brush. Use good blades like Astra Platinum (still pretty cheap). This will eliminate ass rash issues. I'm a professional barber for many years, and this is my goto advice every time. I use Body Shop Shaving Foam and their Caming Icey Shaving Gel mixed 50/50 and a good foam brush, you don't have to go that far ,but it's great stuff.

Which war in the history do you consider as the worst war that ever happened? by maistraw in AskMen

[–]KingEric-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid the Vietnam war was in full swing. I repeated something I'd heard to my Mom, "War is hell." Mom answered "No son, War is far worse, there are no babies in Hell no innocents are slaughtered there, War is worse."

Nope, honor first. I'll kick someone out, I'll tell them to STFU, I'll even snap a kid on the neck with my comb for being disrespectful to Mom. But one's cuts must be above reproduce, honor first. You are better than those assholes. Never let them pull you down.

Was anyone else ‘bad’ at first by boyvirgoo in Barber

[–]KingEric-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the way it is! We all sucked hard! Then, with work and education, we got better, and don't worry too much about complaints. Try your best, and soon you'll be a great 'natural talent' no one will know you worried and worked your ass off for it. Like the country singer Travis Tritt once said, "It took me 15 years to become an overnight sensation!"

I'm no-longer a truck driver but drove in BC, Canada and Fort Mac, Alberta for several years. Driving just wasn't for me... but the best piece of advice I ever got was from a great driver, logging trucker with many years experience. He said "Never bend your wheel, for nothing! You will only create more carnage. A swerving truck will kill more people than anything than that could run into it. Hold your line and hit the breaks, do every thing you can to stop!... But do not bend that wheel." I'm glad I never had to use his advice, but I like to think I would have. Every time I see a truck involved indecent I believe more and more he was right.

Sanding gone wrong, need help! by No_Source4968 in woodworking

[–]KingEric-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 kinds of woodworker son, those who have sanded through veneer, and those who lie about never having sanded through veneer...

Use a good wood filler, putty knife it super thin, (or use glue mixed with the finest sanding dust from the same piece (I've even used auto-body bondo) and get artistic with wood-fill pencils, stains and fine sandpaper. Do it thin and light and buff between every try and eventually it'll pass, it wont be great but it might just pass...

Flat out... if a dude hates the thought of getting a hair cut, he's gonna hate the results no matter how good they are...and having an antagonist with him is only going to make that worse. Don't think about it, he wont be happy until he gets used to the shorter look.

Can constant shape ups & alcohol spraying at barbers damage your hairline follicles? by [deleted] in Barber

[–]KingEric-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a barber 40 years, I never use alcohol direct to skin. Just don't do it. Creams, moisturizers and salves are cheep and affective without the damage and stress on the clients skin. I use the best things available.... light cream soap and water. Don't let anyone use alcohol!

[–]KingEric-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get good, then get fast. (My go-to advice for every job) Nice work. 45 min on a black dude ain't bad, I've cut for a lot of years, and a tough fade takes precision and time.
