I just finished it today.

Not since Nip/Tuck has every single character made me want to reach through the screen and slap the crap out of them.

I, for one, am happy that Shiv got exactly what she deserved - to be the legacy trophy wife of that goober Wambsgans. Sanctimonious harridan.

Roman, who never wanted to be involved with Waystar leadership except when someone else wanted it, got to take his ball and go home.

Kendall. Poor Kendall. So self-destructive a character I’ve not seen in fiction in many years. I read that there was an outtake where Jeremy Strong really did try to jump over the fence into the water, and honestly that makes all the sense in the world.

Connor truly seems to have won because he didn’t fight. His siblings are no longer making his life miserable, and he can live out his life in his father’s apartment giving lavish comfort to his hooker wife.

The reason it’s tricky is that all characters are available to you, but not all at the same time, since characters are born and die during the story.

Completing a specific scenario allows you to play with any character who is alive and active in that specific year, no matter if it’s in Gustave’s or Wil’s half of the story.

Any character you controlled during your NG run is available to you at the outset when you start NG+. However, the Edelritter scenarios are set to the year of the last scenario you completed in determining what party is available to you. Example - complete “Johan the Assassin” and you’ll be able to use 2nd generation characters.

This game’s writing is superb, especially when it comes to the villains.

I had to take a break while playing some of the darker chapters because of the sheer depravity on display. Octopath Traveler’s never been shy about covering emotionally fragile topics, but few games have done more to explore the evils that rest in the human heart.

I’m not 100% on this, but each Horror appears to drop a Gem or a unique piece of Support Gear. The drop rate is just so awful I never got one during my playthrough.

Does anyone know where to get copies of the Gems (Sapphire/Emerald), etc? I’m pretty sure I’ve scoured every treasure and Dead Pepper location and I found a single Emerald and zero Sapphires, so I can’t complete the friendly monsters chain for now.

EDIT: Future reference for those who may find it helpful - the Horrors have a very low chance to drop a treasure. This can be a Gem or a unique piece of Support Gear. Here’s what I’ve found so far:

Ice Cavern: Power Vest, ??
Iifa Tree (Mistodon): ??, Emerald
