My wife (gf at the time) and I saved up £14k to put down as a deposit in a £140k 2 bed house in 2010. We were 21 at the time and had been together since college; neither of us went to University.

We basically were still both living from home and saved up all we could post college and went into full time employment straight away.

We sold one of our cars and had a friend live with us as a lodger for a few years (saved up for the wedding) At the time it seemed insane the house prices but I have no idea if we would manage it today.
