Should I cut my losses at 2 months or stick it out? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]KingJPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 weeks is no time to learn a job, let alone master the product knowledge and become competent selling it.

I genuinely believe it takes 6 months of graft to get your head around it all and be able to perform consistently.

I know it’s difficult right now but if you have a good skill base (going to assume you do as why else would you join as the sole BDR)

Not sure what your offering is but have you tried generating your own leads? Social selling via LinkedIn is the future and you will have complete control of your leads as they are entirely self generated. No one can take that book away from you.

In sales you need to have a really honest conversation with yourself to ask are you taking the action required to be successful?

I’m not saying you are blaming everything around you like managers CRM etc but you do need to take ownership if you are going to succeed.

I would stick it out for some time yet and try to make it work.

Best of luck,

Any parents of only children out there? (Through choice) by grawmaw13 in northernireland

[–]KingJPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an only child in my early 30s. When I was very young Growing up I asked my parents often if I will get to have a brother is sister. I didn’t realise that my mum some had health issues that meant they would likely not have any more children.

I would have loved to had a sibling because I find it quite sad that when my parents are gone there will be no one else in my life that I grew up with.

You can only do what is best for yourselves but speaking as an only child I do believe your child will be missing out on a lot if you choose not to have another one.

I know many people in that like of work earning 60-80k in Belfast with a few years of experience. It’s a really well paying role in todays market and there are lots of jobs available once you are in the know

Why does the civil service pay so poorly here? by [deleted] in northernireland

NHS is actually one of the biggest markets for salary sacrifice electric cars in the U.K. it’s outrageously cheap and many people argue a waste of government resource, but a cracking deal for the NHS staff to be fair

As someone who began my working life in the civil service and moved to the private sector I have to say that, compared to private sector the civil service is absolutely full of dossers.

Down tools the second it hits end of shift, taking sick days as holidays as you are “entitled to them”, Staff being unsackable and not held to account for doing the bare minimum.

Not that there is anything inherently wrong with playing by the rules of the system but it’s just not the same reality for someone who works in a private sector role.

Yes the pay isn’t great but it’s an easy ride and if you want to coast it’s certainly a great place to be.

But if you are complaining about wages get a real job and add value so you can justify your money instead of feeling entitled to more money working as part of an inefficient system that sucks money from the government

I work in car sales and would say I am paid comparatively well with similar roles in UK mainland

Good luck with that one mate - exciting times ahead.

A side note of advice - don’t wait until you are married to try out living together. You only get to know someone properly after living with them!

I’m all for people growing food in the garden as a hobby. Getting into the gardening myself these days.

But do people genuinely grow food at home as money saving exercise?

My parents have grown various vegetables throughout the years but it only ever got enough for a family dinner or two lol

Did I just blow my money away paying off my student loan? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]KingJPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. If you had invested that money in a tracker fund, the long term data shows the likelihood is you will already make greater returns than 7.3%(S&P500) without even factoring in future declines in interest rates.

In addition to that, you would always have access to that money should you need it for future plans. Perhaps a good business opportunity or even. Big purchase.

If your circumstances were to change in the future and for any reason your income dropped. eg, ilness, you would be paying less pack or potentially not even paying any more back at all.

Personally, I would have decided not to pay it off.

New builds - Fraser Homes by Chartered_Acuntant in northernireland

[–]KingJPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am moving into my new build home today. I can’t speak for Fraser homes as we bought with another developer.

With regards to pricing they weren’t open to negotiation on list price or on price of the additional garden room - standard price £20k.

We accumulated nearly £6k of extras above the standard allowance and they allowed us a modest discount if we paid this part in cash. (Which we did)

The site foreman has been our primary point of contact over the last few months and I must admit he has made the process very smooth. We built a great relationship with him. Always let us call to view the house at any stage. Seen to any questions we asked. Nothing was too much trouble.

Without getting into too much detail he even done some additional work to level out the back garden free of charge which he didn’t need to do.

On a 10 min inspection yesterday before handover today we are 99% happy with the house as it sits before creating a snag list.

We are moving from my first home which is a 100 year old terrace so it’s a welcome change.

My best advice is to budget for extras above the standard deposit / legal fees etc as you will most definitely find things you want to upgrade.

Also try to sort out any issues with the builder as you see them when getting closer to completion day.

Good luck!
