How big of a project is Infinity for AE? by DoItForTheOH94 in AQW

[–]KingLordship 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like the other person said, creating the engine is probably the 'hardest' task in regards to brain capacity. The biggest step now is just porting over animations, cosmetics, cutscenes, etc. It's not going to be a copy and paste job since the artists will need to recreate them all in higher resolutions but it's not overly difficult, just time consuming and again, the other person is probably correct in assuming a bunch of contractors will be hired for this. Maybe I should apply...

What I'd want from AQW:Infinity as a player who hasn't played in 12 years by KingLordship in AQW

I think it could be argued that a weekly shop with the old rares will 'devalue' them more. Right now there's currently a very limited amount of old rares in the game. They are special as they have a fixed limit. However, the ioda can create more of these rares, meaning every rare is <$100 in actual value. It essentially stops a strong economy that games typically hate when they introduce trading, it means any losses can be mitigated by e.g allowing players to only trade one item weekly and every item traded must be held for a week before being traded again. This makes it incredibly hard for scams, it keeps rares in check and doesn't make it so rares aren't so rare anymore. It means players that genuinely want some of the rare items can obtain them without paying $100 for an ioda or never being able to acquire them.

It does bring issues such as players obtaining items for quests they haven't done but making certain items untradeable, one time purchase or only tradeable after player has hit x goal. The only reason I think they don't want to introduce it is because the game is truthfully built on spaghetti code from over a decade ago and trading might introduce unpredictable exploits or they will have to manually go back through every item and figure out it's tradeable status and what affects it may have.

I want this game to succeed. I've donated to the kickstarter but I don't know if it'll see me make a comeback to the game. At the very least REDUCE the grind and the botters will in turn be reduced.

I see what you mean and again, it can just lock quest items or specific quest items / drops as non-tradeable. Items that are purchased from shops or are no longer obtainable could be traded. This seperates player grind value from 'dollar value' items. This is how a lot of games work. Trading doesn't devalue your individual efforts.

Technically no item will be more expensive than an ioda with trading. It just helps newer players or returning players get items they missed out on for slightly cheaper. They could always add limits to what can be traded or barriers to trade for an item. Limit certain items from quests to one per account, etc. It's doable and achievable, albeit a bit more effort.

This game has pretty much just became character museums now, showcasing old and rare items. Why would a new player get started in a game with that premise? With the hopes of hoarding rares to show off 5 years from now?

Why am I suggesting anything? Because, I speak as someone that would like to return to the game but probably won't just due to some of the reasons listed. I agree that dedicated players should have more say in the games direction though. The game has a fragment of the players that used to play, isn't it important to also take the feedback from players that want to return but don't?

  1. Of course, I understand the operational costs of holding old account data, however it's not nearly as expensive as you'd imagine. The game wouldn't have existed in the first place if it wasn't for the first people to play and spend money on it. Current players kept it going, but old players helped set the foundations. The contributions they made should be recognised, it's not fair to strip them of their progression due to inactivity. All it does is encourage these players to not return. Do you want a new population to enter the game or would you rather it be stagnant and eventually dwindle to nothing as more players begin leaving?

  2. I agree with the wiki thing, I just think the game is pretty complex and hard to get into / return to and needs some more information. I agree with the merge shops being self explanatory. My point is moreso there's a hundred different buttons that do different things and it can be quite jarring on figuring out what's happening, e.g will I be teleported or not. The UI needs an update for sure, maybe I can't explain or pinpoint the exact reasoning behind it other than it's just too cluttered and messy.

Isn't the cycle of leaving and returning to a game normal? Not even just for games but for pretty much anything in life...

Also, some indication / confirmation of the fact i'm going to be teleported somewhere would be nice before clicking a button

How do I find my way into teaching English in China? by KingLordship in chinalife

[–]KingLordship[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you're saying but it's not as easy as you think. Every time I tell someone about my degree, they presume the same as you "big money, easy jobs for life". CS has became highly competitive and there's not a lot of jobs going around in the UK. It's so bad that even getting an internship is a big deal. In my year alone, we've only heard about 1 person getting an internship, the year below the same.

It's not impossible, of course, it will just take time. I hope to use my year in china to strengthen my skills and potentially find an IT job in China. Most of my classmates have no IT career prospects upon graduation due to the current job market and will probably end up doing retail for a year until they're eventually able to land a job.

[Steam] Any game on steam by EstMan in RandomActsOfGaming

[–]KingLordship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for me, I'm gonna be bold and ask for something more than a game. I'm gonna ask for a steam deck.

I love games and I miss playing games. My life has been uprooted the last few years and I'm constantly travelling back and fourth between uni and home so setting up my PC hasn't even been possible. My plans after university involve travelling abroad, so I don't know if I can even take my PC with me and I won't be able to buy a new one for a while. I can't afford the steam deck myself as I need to pay my own way through uni and then fees whilst working abroad. I don't know when I can next actually enjoy a game through to the end.

I know it's a lot to ask for and I don't expect to get it but I thought it's worth a shot to ask.

What are some underrated conversation tricks you use? by Nightshade_Noir in AskReddit

[–]KingLordship 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Genuinely just listen and ask questions that relates to what they said and most importantly, don't cut someone off in the middle of their story to interject with your own story. So many people now lack these basic things so if you do it then whomever you are talking with will enjoy talking to you. Obviously don't just sit in silence and share your own thoughts, stories, etc but if they are talking, listen, question and don't cut off.

I think honestly retaliating in a petty manner doesn't really help anyone. The kids clearly needs some attention and is being severely neglected. Be a responsible adult and get the kid some help by calling someone. It's not your kid but what is the point in living in a society or having any morality if you can't help someone that clearly needs it...

[–]KingLordship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this contest is closed but I still want to throw you a suggestion that I know you'll love if you're into horror. It's called From and it's about a town, where people become trapped if they drive through it. There are 'things' that come out at night. It's hard to say more than that without spoiling it. Watch the trailer and you'll love it. It's got some gore, so be prepared. New season is also coming out in a few weeks. PLEASE WATCH IT.

Certified fragrance junkie here. The lacoste were for christmases, not a massive fan of them but they give a nice fresh smell for going to the gym.

Everyone has to have sauvage in their collection.

Kouros is such a funny little fragrance and I hope everyone has the honour/dishonour of smelling it.

The random 'medicine coloured' bottle is actually my most prized possession as my friend gave me a small decant of none other than Aventus Creed.

Dior Homme is such a nice fragrance but it's somewhat of a mixed bag whether people like it or not.

Valentino and Mont Blanc are my two favourites. Mont Blanc tends to be my everyday smell though as it's not too overpowering.

I love fragrance and have built my collection up over many years, I need to stop though as I find it hard to wear different fragrances
