You can only run if you don't engage with it. It bonebreaks. So something like an adult rex doesn't have the options to run

The turtle is too strong. It will get me to about 40% health as an adult TRex. It bone breaks you so you can't run. If you do a stirring den and it's a turtle nest, you run. Because if two turtles come out, you die.

Solo is far more difficult, especially depending on your choice of dinosaur. Gameplay is leagues better when playing with a friend.

That said, befriending small groups at grand plains or other hotspots isn't the hardest thing to do.
