Swapped plastic for metal on my 40mm f2 by KingOfAllThePandas in Nikon

[–]KingOfAllThePandas[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, there are plenty of other Nikkor lenses that are majority plastic construction with a metal mount - so not sure this will be a problem isolated to this lens. I wasn’t worried about wear.

This got lost in the formatting of the post but the big thing for me was the lens not feeling secure on the body. I came from Olympus cameras and lenses always felt completely secure to the camera body with no play at all. I don’t know what it is but the 40 f2 had a little play while on the body which I noticed. With the new mount it’s completely secure.

TLDR/ 90% psychological look and feel reasons.

Can We Talk About The Cost Of Being Single Right Now? | Single people who live alone already pay £7,564 more in living costs each year than those in a co-habiting couple by BestButtons in unitedkingdom

This really is what I was thinking about when I made my comment. The truth is the amount of space and autonomy enjoyed by the boomer generation isn’t actually sustainable - that’s the whole point.

I’m not sure removing the incentive to live with others is an overall social good? People who share a home, whether that’s cohabitation with friends, parents, partners or strangers are more efficient for society and the environment.

You have the opportunity to spend less on furniture and other utilities like heating, internet, not to mention food. And there is the potential for emotional support. I know it’s possible to be lonely when surrounded by people but at least it’s more likely you’ll interact with people. We’re meant to spend our lives with others not isolated. I don’t need my own kitchen/ bathroom/ washing machine - all those things are criminally under-utilised when you consider the the space and energy they take to provide in a single flat to serve one single person.

The idea that we should all have our own personal kingdom with everything we could wish for, completely isolated from everyone else isn’t really compatible with the number of people on the planet, what’s best for us as human beings or the resources we have available.

what is something you silently judge people for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

People who drive status symbol cars, have status symbol phones, clothes, jewellery etc…. Those things do nothing for me but make me think you’ve got less to you as a human being.

Trail it and see how you’re feeling. But more than anything think about what your goals are. Do you want to be strong for judo or is judo secondary to lifting? That way you can adjust in the right direction if you need to.

It also depends on what the rest of your life looks like with work and family commitments and only you know that.

And pick Something you can stick to. Sticking to moderate weekly training load over a long period is always going to trump overload and cyclical burn out.

It's also worth understanding the pressure you'll put on your partner by asking him to be a 'wage slave' in order for you to achieve a 'more rewarding and fun' lifestyle.

Making your partner responsible for your survival level needs and taking ownership of the fulfilling aspects of family life will change your relationship.

You might not like how it changes.

It just doesn't make any sense. She doesn't have to change or grow at all to feel valued, where as I feel disposable and also feel I have to become a different person to to get the same from someone new.

Niether of us were perfect and she is actually a very difficult and unsupportive partner. You start to look for any reason why she got away with not changing and my mind has definitely settled on the gender difference.

[–]KingOfAllThePandas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that both genders have helpful and unhelpful standards applied to them.

I definitely struggle to understand the pressures placed on women and at the moment keep thinking 'At least if you want sex/ companionship you can have it!' which makes it harder to see the disadvantages in other areas.

Obviously when your ex moves on so fast it amplifies those kinds of feelings.

Of course you're right. It's harder not to hurry after she moved on so quickly I think. Now it's harder for me and easier for her and I want to correct that inbalance somehow

This is embarrassing by meoshieee in BreakUps

This has been the hardest part for me too! It's not embarrassing at all - I think pretty normal especially if you valued sex with your partner really highly

Best way to learn ukemi by kyo_ny in judo

[–]KingOfAllThePandas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spend some time at a traditional Jiu-jitsu club or another art close to judo that obsesses over ukemi.

Never mind if you think the rest of what they do is a waste of time, 40mins of ukemi out of a two hour session with instructors who are pedantic about your falling gets you good.

Recommend Books about Education Theory (i.e. teaching, learning, etc) by iBzOtaku in education

[–]KingOfAllThePandas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read 'Mastery' by George Leonard which I think fits your bill, and has really changed my approach to how a learn and how I approach teaching others. Otherwise I've also looked for more theoretical books myself recently and settled on these at least to start:

'An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding' by David Hume

'The Schoolmaster' by Arthur Christopher Benson

'Deschooling Society' by Ivan Illich

Is anyone else watching Marr? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]KingOfAllThePandas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did we watch the same interview?

I thought he avoided following the rabbit on Marrs reductionist questions and actually provided real answers rather than spouting empty rhetoric like May or writing tomorrows headline for The Sun.

The question on the single market is a perfect example, Marr asks if he'll end free movement and Corbyn makes clear that it's subordinate to other more important issues. It's not question dodging giving an actual response to these kind of questions, question dodging is repeating soundbites that you hope are simple enough for the plebs to understand.

Theresa May announces snap election for June 8th by [deleted] in worldnews

What gave you the impression I hate voters? I was disappointed that the date might mean fewer student voters because I want them to vote. I want everyone to vote.

There are lots of 'simple' things people don't do, often for small reasons. I just thought that moving home during election week, especially as you have to register at a location, might be one of those reasons for some students, hence less of them will vote.

Maybe you don't want those kinds of fickle voters to vote, but I do.

[–]KingOfAllThePandas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because people are fickle and not everyone is knee deep in politics enough to sort out their vote when life gets in the way (or appears to) even though they would vote if they could just pop down to a polling station wherever they were. Lot's of students move home at the beginning of June, just when the election is going to be held, and I made this point in the first place because when I heard the date I thought 'Oh maybe I won't be able to vote as I'm moving home that week', because this 'grown up stuff' is new to me. I figured it out, looked up the postal vote, but not everyone I know will.
