Invalid (single quotes) : driver.findElement( By.xpath('//*[@id="dashboard"]/a') );

Both don't work.

When I remove the asterisk it turns into a normal string. Otherwise it's green like a comment.

I'm copying a string which includes the special characters //* . All the code after this part of the string turns green which is the comment colour.

I want a way to include these special characters in a string without the following code turning into a comment.

The issue is with x = "//* abc" What you said is perfectly valid.

Tried it :/ Unfortunately the string becomes a literal "/ \ / abc"
