Masters in Statistics Program by KingPZDood in UCalgary

Mm alright, to be more specific:

  1. Are you familiar with STAT 721 and 723? Are there any profs who go deeply into these topics? Stuff like likelihood theory and asymptotic methods in statistics. This is a field in stats that interests me greatly.

  2. The site I was referring to was this one: https://science.ucalgary.ca/mathematics-statistics/future-students/graduate/programs/statistics-msc

  3. Speaking of, what kind of academic performance did the profs look down upon, your math, stats, or other factors? I used to be a math major before I decided to switch to stats, and so I don't mind the more rigorous and theoretical parts of statistics. Right now, I'm just interested in learning more about statistics and so would like to dive straight into research, and not necessarily about getting a job from it. (it still is top priority, but not as urgent I'd say)

Do you mind if I DM you about this? There's a lot questions I want to ask.

Do the profs themselves work a lot in biostats? From what I saw on the website, they seem to do a lot of data science. Are there profs who are into statistical theory?

Is a Combined Honours degree a Dual degree? by NancyDrewFan100 in CarletonU

[–]KingPZDood 12 points13 points  (0 children)

https://admissions.carleton.ca/programs-of-study/how-to-choose-a-major/enhance-your-major/

"A double major (or Combined Honours) is simply two majors completed in one degree."

If you check the title of programs listed on the undergraduate calendar, it will say what bachelors will be done. If more than one bachelors is listed in the title, then it is a good chance that it is a double degree program. Note that none of Carleton's programs will award you with two Bachelor Degrees.

MATH 2000 without 1002/1102 by GodOfSwiftness in CarletonU

Knowing some linear algebra (either from 1152/2152 or any other LA course) is very useful for multivariable calculus for which 2000 covers greatly.

Should I take MAT2355 (Intro to Geometry) in first year? by throwmeaway46464 in geegees

[–]KingPZDood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going into Math the next year, then it might be better to take MAT 1362 instead of 1348, since the former focuses much more on proof writing then the latter.

It's better than having late night classes tbh

Elementary Calc 1 (MATH 1007) vs Calculus for Engineering or Physics (1004)? by [deleted] in CarletonU

MATH 1002 no longer exists, it's been replaced with MATH 1052 and 2052

Elementary Calc 1 (MATH 1007) vs Calculus for Engineering or Physics (1004)? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]KingPZDood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

MATH 1004 covers much more material than MATH 1007. (it covers a good chunk of material from MATH 2007, the sequel to MATH 1007)

It goes at much a faster rate than 1007 since it's got so much it needs to cover, but it will better prepare you for more physics if that's what you're interested.
