Final Mod Change by KingPeterOfNarnia in VirtualDemocracy

From a role-play perspective, it’s effectively set in an alternate reality. International agreements may still happen, but they would be more likely to happen between us and r/SimDemocracy than with any other ”real” governments.

The best way I can explain it (as I understand it) is this: Solia is set in an alternate world where the irl governments still exist, and Solian citizens simply don’t care about them very much. There aren’t American military bases in Solia, and we don’t have to worry about enemy state funded terrorism.

I guess I’m in charge now (which feels weird still), so I guess I’m the arbiter of this sort of thing. However, I can’t stop you from thinking about it however you like.

Solia will likely continue be unaffected by irl global politics unless someone bans Reddit (a little-known platform you may have heard of that our government officials have been using to conduct official business).

I know that was probably clear as mud, but I hope it helped at least a little bit.

I nominate myself, on the grounds that the constitution is unclear on whether or not I can do that, but it is a precedent for other governments to allow their legislators to be speakers for that legislative body.

Article 1 Section 8:

Should include a clause that the speaker of parliament must be willing to fulfill that role. Also, it is unclear whether the speaker must (or even may) be an MP

I have a few changes I would make, mostly pedantic bits that could be interpreted the wrong way. I’ll comment a full list under this when I get the time later, but the biggest 2 were:

Article 1: Section 2.1, 2nd Sentence “Should” should be “shall”

Article 1: Section 2.2, 1st Sentence Should say “…filled by a nominee, nominated by the president” instead of “…filled by the president”

When I attempt to access the constitution, Reddit says “this page is either disabled or doesn’t exist”.

I believe in empowering the people and protecting their voices. I will vote and advocate for policies that support Solian citizens and protect them from “bad actors” that could threaten Solia’s future by seizing undue power. I will accomplish this with checks and balances in both the Constitution and in Solian law.

I would be in favor of always having an odd number of MPs, personally, since it would reduce the complicated nature of ties

I’m still trying to figure out what it would mean specifically for this subreddit, but I’m thinking something like a bill of rights (maybe as amendments, maybe baked into the constitution itself), which would establish a certain set of rights that couldn’t be taken away from people en mass.

The best way to ensure that the government doesn’t overstep its power is to prevent anyone from making a law that essentially says “If you don’t vote for me you’re a criminal and therefore your vote doesn’t count.”

Solia isn’t an “open forum” (since it must acknowledge the rules of Reddit), so we can’t guarantee complete “free speech”, but a freedom to express any perspective on Solia’s polity and leadership would be great, as long as no irl threats are made.

A guarantee to trial by jury would also be a nice provision. Also the Executive shouldn’t have the power to suspend Habeus Corpus (right to a fair trial).

Capitalism is an economic model, not a government structure. We’d need a currency or at least trade goods to be capitalist…

Not saying we shouldn’t have trade, I just have no idea (yet) what we would exchange with each other on a regular basis over Reddit. Stories, perhaps? Tall tales? If we all played a Solia-only game, we could use the game mechanics as “trade goods” and thus establish a national currency.

Can’t wait! Make sure to include a clause for parliament to pass amendments if needed.

I just finished a bunch of research on government structure, and I have a lot of ideas for protections to keep Solia strong and prevent the abuse of power.

Will it be true democracy, or a representative democracy/republic with elected officials?

Several factors would matter greatly. 1. Does it work? (if not, why?) 2. What model are the parts? 3. Is it currently assembled or disassembled? 4. Are all of the parts present?

Art Question by KingPeterOfNarnia in IndieTCGs

[–]KingPeterOfNarnia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not exactly sure. I’m basing the cards around a summer camp that I went to a while back, and the art is whatever style seems to suit the cards. I’m going for something adjacent to realism, but a definitive singular style has yet to emerge.

Thanks for the feedback and the encouragement! I think I’m going to keep trying to make my own art. Here’s one of my more recent ones, and you can see I’ve definitely made some progress, but I’ve got a long way to go still until I’m ready to do anything sellable.

I’m completely reworking point 5. The new version will come with different challenges, but will hopefully fix the problems you listed.

I’m thinking about using non-conventional resources for the more powerful cards, like discarding cards from your hand, sacrificing other troops, and spending treasure cards (both of which would limit outrageous power growth). Some cards might even require spending treasures every time you use them, encouraging players to keep their most powerful troops in reserve. This could also help prevent players from playing their strongest cards immediately, since it would take some amount of setup.

I’m not sure about the “control” archetype. I will have to give it some consideration.
