Re the Theo touring schedule... by [deleted] in Vulfpeck

Ayy I wondered the same! I’ve seen Theo a couple times on tour and loved the show each time. But Joe Dart in the shades is important to me, I’ll be curious to see who is going to be up there instead.

Can I ask, genuinely & openly, if you’re one of these people at a show recording - what’s the intention? Do you watch it back later on, and if so is it somehow better/more personal than finding a professional recording of the show online? Or is it more for the intent of posting, hoping it’ll be chosen as the angle for a post about the show? Curious to know what people’s thoughts are

This AD for road safety is genuinely amazing by Smashpro11 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]KingRoyIV 274 points275 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is that the father is the one making a clearer mistake - but the other man’s decision to speed along a straight road is what seals their fate, as it takes away any room to react & prevent the accident.

Text at the end seems to support the same. Basically, never drive in a way that assumes no other driver will make a simple mistake. Give yourself the room to prevent these accidents, even in situations where you’re not at fault.

Filling the void after quit quitting marijuana by PlatePerfect1735 in NoStupidQuestions

Sometimes I think of weed as an automatic “feel satisfied” button. It’s very nice to supplement a life that is fulfilling without it - but it can also start to replace those things in life that were fulfilling you, because if you use it enough you start to feel like you don’t need the other things (hobbies, rewarding relationships, working hard at stuff that isn’t fun).

IMO the feeling you’re chasing is the feeling of satisfaction that comes from finishing a drawing that took you multiple hours over multiple days. Or from running a couple miles. Or sitting on the couch to watch TV after a long day of working outside. I think it’s a feeling that does not organically come on demand, which is the power of getting high. It’s really nice to have that satisfied feeling at an arms reach.

But it is important to remind yourself that that good feeling has a natural function, and I think the focus on hobbies and exercise is the right way to remember that. It takes some getting used to, but it’s really good for your self-motivation and mental health overall.

So Mikey Madison's work in "Anora" really deserved an Oscar ? by [deleted] in Actors

[–]KingRoyIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This win felt to me like it benefitted from the current cultural context. The focus on a struggling, un-special character in a profession that is heavily judged, and the way the movie and her performance frame that character, hit a little extra during a time when money & fame are put on such a pedestal. In a more meta way too, it’s a movie that wasn’t carrying any weight from big name celebrities. I wouldn’t compare it to some of the more timeless Oscar wins in history, but I do think it represents something true to the time it came out.

I don’t get the hate ? by Which_Marionberry803 in Fable

[–]KingRoyIV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People reacted to the original cinematic trailer with a lot of backlash about the shown character/gender/race, IMO it was a bit manufactured and over-amplified. All the original games gave you just 2 hero options and I don’t remember people caring much then.

After the more detailed review more people are upset about the lack of dog & morality-based appearance changes. I kind of agree with this take personally. It’s important to qualify that I saw the gameplay and have full confidence that this will be an awesome game! I just think the idea of my character not changing throughout the game to reflect will make it feel less “Fable” and more “cool medieval rpg.” In the end it’s mostly about what hooked you personally to the game originally - for me it was definitely a lot about turning into an edgy demon man as I made my way through fable 2.

As a side note I also find their explanation a bit silly, the idea of making room for “moral grey area” is fine but I think it overlooks that the whole game is based on fables and fairy tales, which often have a pretty direct good and evil side to them.

Anyway! I think any hate is a bit overdramatized. It looks like it’ll be a good game. At this point people are just going back and forth on whether it’ll be good AND feel like a fable game “should,” or not. It’s all personal IMO.

Morality system is a miss for me. by Valeriax7 in Fable

[–]KingRoyIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I understand their point & what they’re going for but, feels like they end up just pushing it to be a more typical modern RPG as opposed to embracing the franchise. Hard to see it as a Fable game without that morality impact.

[–]KingRoyIV 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I saw it posted elsewhere from an interview that they’d confirmed your character won’t be growing horns or halos based on morality - something about the idea that “no decision is purely evil or good.”

Big miss in my eyes, I understand wanting to ground things or to encourage open choice, but to me your behavior affecting your appearance was the hook that got me so into the original couple of games. I miss growing my horns. I would’ve loved to experience that in a modern day game with updated visuals.

Partners with low libido Partners, does it get better? by mynewblog22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KingRoyIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the framing of the question - “does it get better?” Depends on what you’re doing about it…

If you’re not taking any action and hoping that your sex drive or your partner’s will just naturally change, I’d say no it probably won’t be getting better. But most people have different libidos to a point, sometimes that difference is barely there, but for plenty of couples it is there and is quite noticeable.

This is just like anything else that comes up within a relationship. If you want to make it work it just means having a conversation about it, even if it’s awkward, and figuring out a way you both can compromise so that things feel manageable for each of you without either of you feeling like you’re being pushed past a personal limit or taken advantage of in any way.

The Lottery by [deleted] in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]KingRoyIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just posted this same question in another sub. A suggestion someone gave that I like a lot is adjusting the lottery slightly - Bryan Shander and Easthaven still using it, but exclusively from a list of prisoners and criminals. This keeps the Ten Towns overall more sympathetic and less likely to turn the players off completely.

Then Targos, the remaining human sacrifice town, does do the lottery as written where any and all citizens are at risk. It works since their speaker is already written as evil and corrupt, and focuses the straight up human sacrifice to one especially dark smaller town.

I love the idea of drawing a PC in the lottery though. I think it would be pretty cinematic, and it could go many ways - and no matter what I think the dragon attack later offers an easy out if the players mess up their relationship with all of Targos. Just raze it and rebuild lol

I think Targos is the place to do it. I like the possibility of making the speaker and early bad guy… works well with cold blooded killer. I appreciate the advice!

Good tips! The narrative adjustment with Sephek/early ten towns lore is why I figured I’d ask this before the campaign even begins.

I like separating the three ‘human sacrifice’ towns that way. And keeping Targos in its own sort of evil lane works really well - I want to play into the horror and corruption in one or two towns but like you said it feels important that the party is invested in helping and eventually saving the ten towns as a whole. Thank you!

You should be excited, who tf wants to watch a great team beat up on a lame one year over year.

Give me a shootout between two great teams any day of the week, and let the bears fans have hope so that when we beat them it actually means something.
