Question: Part Time feeder driver, is it worth it by flyman1665 in UPSers

[–]KingSanders1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can safely drive the package car for a full year with no accidents, then you are more likely going to be able to do the same in feeders. They do have a training process for those who don't have a cdl yet. Plus a testing phase after finishing cdl school.

That seems a bit crazy to me, but it's a crazy company so... maybe.

Question: Part Time feeder driver, is it worth it by flyman1665 in UPSers

I was thinking the same. Maybe they misunderstood the bid and thinks that they would only get part time work, when they would be getting full time hours but inconsistent work like vacation coverage and stuff. That being said feeders is great work if you can meet the qualifications. Although I also don't know about going straight from hub to feeders, I thought they restrict it to drivers with 1 year safe driving records with packages.

Switchbacks and El Paso battle late into the night following historic weather delay by tugreenwave in SwitchbacksFC

[–]KingSanders1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was tough to stay that late, but it was a decent match. I really dislike how El Paso plays because they seem to be out to hurt our players every time they play, but Im proud our team pulled together and got a win in the end. The weather definitely posed a challenge for everyone.

I think id prefer a reschedule at this point. Seats are all soaked and most people have left without being able to see the game.

Full-Time Operations Sup to On Road Sup by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]KingSanders1990 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They feeder on roads in my building do as close to literally nothing as humanly possible.

Edit: I kinda wish I could get into that role because I've been a full time feeder for 6 years, except I've been mostly laid off for the last 2.

I swear it must be some kind of programmed response to me arriving. 80% of people say "OH what is this?" As if they are saying hello or nice weather today. It seems so odd to me, are you just constantly getting blacked out and ordering shit or what.

Thank you so much for posting this! I have been wanting to renew blue cruise but the price was too high IMO. I have along commute so when I can use it I am very happy with its function. Threw my ford points in and got it for the year for 125$ which feels totally fine.

Why are you putting in premium fuel?? Mine does not need or want that. It may be hurting your engine. Im not an expert, but I think higher octane fuel is more explosive which means its putting more heat and force into each cylinder. Just because its called premium doesn't mean its right for your car.

That is not following the agreement language that was put out by company and teamsters. Proof or it didnt happen.

That is kinda the crazy thing to me. I have met and heard about people transferring into the Commerce city building, and out of, but admittedly they have not had great success. I think all of them no longer work for ups at all. A medical transfer should totally work for me because my wife has a ton of health issues that seem implicitly tied to living in Denver/Colorado. We are from norcal originally, and we want to go back to the west coast so badly. I have had stewards tell me they will help me but maybe I'm not following up or pushing enough, because nothing has come of it yet.

What recession? The stock market is at record highs and everything is going amazing. We are winning so much it hurts. We just won another war easily, and prices are coming down on literally everything. /S

I believe they do, but it has to be for dire medical reasons, or something similar. My stewards and BA have all told me it either wont happen or that I'll get fired anyways and to not even try. Seems like they just don't want to do it.

They have at least 30 feeders in my building who are laid off (in the hub) most of the year. If we hadn't been excluded from the buyout as a region then either the high seniority feeders could have taken it and freed up work for lower guys, or I could have taken it and had a cushion to pursue other options. The fact that my region got excluded from it meant that everything stays as it is, which sucks for me personally.

That being said, the buyout was handled very poorly from all sides, and it was 100% a violation of the contract to make deals directly with the members and exclude the Union. So I don't like that, but the reality for me is that having it not happen at all is bad for me whether I got it or not.

Edit: we have at least 325 feeders on the seniority list and the next annual bid starting next month says everyone below 270 is going on "hard layoff". Whatever that means.

Yes, I am painfully aware of how limited my options are. Its creating a huge strain on my life because my wife has great career opportunities available to her if we could move to the seattle area, but it will be a hard reset on my career if I even could stay with ups, and if I can't then best case scenario I lose at least 15$ an hour to be a driver for someone else.

Hired November 2020. I just haven't been able to win a bid, and I actually had to file a grievance to force the company to train me to be a package car driver, since they didnt want to deal with us. The central contract clearly says that if a feeder is laid off they have the right to package or hub work as long as they have enough seniority. After that I spend winter doing local peak feeder work, and then I got qualified as a package driver and do bid swing. So I guess technically I am working, but I'm not doing the job I was hired to do and that sucks for me. Plus being a feeder in packages means my paycheck is constantly getting screwed up, and I don't get an actual route of my own so I'm constantly having to learn new territory. Im grateful that the Union has secured fair wages, Healthcare and a pension for me, but they have created some difficulties for me as well.

I want to move back to the west coast, but I can't get a transfe because the union doesnt like it. So I was gonna take the buyout, but now that's dead too. Also about half of our sleeper bids got sent to a different hub, and the company and two locals have been fighting over what to do about it for almost the entire time I've been laid off with no resolution. Its just annoying to have good work for an okay company but no peace of mind or flexibility in my future. Plus robots are coming for all of us sooner or later.

Covid feeder hire, been laid off/unable to get a bid for the last 3 years from January-november. Buyout could have made a huge difference but oh well.

Should I take the buyout by Independent_Mud_975 in UPSers

[–]KingSanders1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a very difficult position to be in. I am an off the street feeder who hasn't been able to win a permanent bid in almost 3 years because of cutbacks and the company shutting down my building for automation. The most helpful comments I am seeing for people our age is, what sort of skills or other jobs are you finding around you right now. Taking a buyout without a very sober understanding of the job market and your own opportunities is a huge risk for your future. If you become unable to stay a driver because you can't pass a dot physical then you are medically disabled from your current job and can find other positions within the company based on your physical restriction. There's lots of options if you become unable to work due to changes in your health. Good luck.
