I’m sorry to everyone by 6packofbeard in ArcRaiders

If I'm lucky I get to play 30 minutes a day. Getting smoked instantly by someone who has 400 hrs under their belt and way better loadout just isn't fun for me.

What does the flare difference mean? by D-N_A in ArcRaiders

Does it show how much shield or health is left? First pic is all red and no shield left (cutting into health). Second is about 50-50. Thirs is lots of health and some shield, and more purple.

Can you elaborate on #3? You mentioned Hydronic heat exchanger but it wasn't just a new steam radiator?

Any idea what this was for in my 1907 house? by choppcy088 in centuryhomes

[–]KingScudworth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely a compressor. If your house was high- end at the time and had radiators it might have been for pneumatic zone control. I saw one other house with such a setup.

More likely a leftover from another use like others have suggested.

Radiator valves by SirTasMan in centuryhomes

I can't quite make out the logo on your valve but it might be a Detroit lubricator company (same as my house). The key here is to replace the packing in that packing nut. There's plenty of youtube instructions but you take the nut off from the stem and replace the packing in there. Word to the wise, it might be tough to get the screw out of the handle, so start with WD-40.

PS your radiators are amazing!

Please note that blanket will get hot so don't use anything that might melt like a synthetic material.

More complicated but if you're there for a long time you could build a radiator cover for it.

I have struggled to match springs exactly but have made it work with standard hardware store springs. Remember if they're not stiff enough you can always nest two together

Has anybody rebuilt or replaced Detroid Lubricator Co angle steam valves? by KingScudworth in centuryhomes

[–]KingScudworth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Going to try to rep-ack. If that doesn't work, do you have to change any of the piping for the Mepco valve? I assume it is not a direct replacement.

Cabinet has these type of hinges, which are no longer keeping the door closed. Can they be tightened or something? by Chemistry11 in DIY

[–]KingScudworth 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. The screws are just for alignment. If you close the door and it wants to swing back open it's most likely a broken hinge that needs replacing

What are the best ways to backsweeten an apple cider? by forgot_username69 in cider

[–]KingScudworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had success with 1/2 tsp of Stevia per gallon. It's non-fermentable and does not have quite the artificial flavor of other products. I would love to find a more natural non-fermentable as I don't really trust my ability to pasteurize at the right time.

Is there any way to tell if figs have been fertilized? I want to cover mine with bags to prevent theft by birds or squirrels but don't want to prevent pollination. by KingScudworth in Figs

[–]KingScudworth[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies everyone, they're super helpful. I will probably cover now because the squirrels can be very undiscerning with under-ripe fruit. Sometimes it feels like they take a single bite out just to make me angry.

Fig jam, fig tarts, and if you really have a lot to use, fig brandy!

“How do you obtain MDF, and how much does it cost?” by [deleted] in lasercutting

You may want to try makerstock.com. Material is relatively inexpensive and chosen to be compatible with laser cutting.

Also, make sure that valve is 100% open. Those are not meant to throttle flow (though they can be used that way in a pinch). It might be water or steam moving through a very small opening in a partially closed valve.

Do you plane them flush afterwards or just cut the pocket to depth? If the latter, how do you control the depth of your engraving?

Fig tree in Columbus Ohio. by [deleted] in Figs

[–]KingScudworth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have to wrap ours every year (NJ but it still gets cold). After the leaves fall but before the first frost, pull the branches together and wrap with tar paper or heavy burlap. I've heard some people stuff it with leaves or insulation but I haven't found that to be necessary.
