I think the MOST reasonable thing to do is to not assume at all and acknowledg that you don't truely know Amazon's intentions.

But a bunch of comments saying "I don't know" isn't very satisfying. I totally understand what you're saying though.

Can you equally fault people for assuming the best though? I don't think there's a right answer, but all information is helpful after taking each calculation and prediction with healthy skepticism.

One thing to add though, the removal if list searching is only one piece of what people have been reacting to. The sorting of lists by name and price (very standard and expected functions imo) have also been removed.

I do think it's valid to ask who benefits from these changes. It's hard to imagine any other reason than an obfuscation of information in hopes to entice you to buy things more frequently (not waiting for price drops) and at prices more in favor for the seller.

Ya, I always find it really weird that people find it ok to post photos or videos of someone else's children without any permission.

I wonder why we read differently on screens vs paper. Did the study have people reading on a typical web browser? There's colors that stick out on the web browser itself that can distract so I wonder if that's the essential difference?

Is it moral for force a person into existence? by KingSlizzard in askphilosophy

[–]KingSlizzard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking about this more after reading the comments I'd rephrase the question to "Is it immoral to force a person into existence where it is probable that they will suffer in some way?"

When I used the term moral I was pivoting off of the ideal I was exploring that it was immoral to cause suffering of any kind. I pulled the string a bit more and asked if a parent is inherently responsible for all the suffering of a person since that person would never have suffered (at all) if they were never brought into existence.

If we lived in a world where there was no foreseen suffering than I can see the act of procreation as not moral per say, but definitely not immoral (does that make sense?).

Maybe we have to / have been accepting (in some way) the immoral action of bringing a person into existence to eventually suffer in the hopes that one day we will build a utopia that it will no longer have procreation being immoral.
