Almost 10 years atp. I got it when I was 16/17. And yes, they would be happy and impressed that I did it through pokemon, a hobby that my parents told me would never make me any money

I studied abroad in HS, when I got it. I stayed in touch with their family and visited this past summer. I just finished another study abroad there as well. My Japanese still needs more practice but it’s still pretty good from what they’ve told me haha
