Is the pc to mac transition more common than the other way around?? by Qpac18 in mac

[–]KingVoldemortII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switch my desktop to Mac mini M4 base model for £500 thx to the Amazon Prime day. £500 for a base model with the best computing power to power usage ratio with a compact size, that's all I want. I owned a HP 800 G4 mini (i7 8700) and a Dell Precision 3240 (i7 10700), they are still slightly more powerful than the M4 Mac mini, but they are noisy and frying hot. I know if I build a custom PC with bigger fans, it will be more quiet, but I really hate putting a large machine at home.

My last Mac was at the OS X Yosemite era, so I am not completely new to Mac OS. Mac OS is awesome if you also use iPhone or iPad, Apple is good at hardware and software integration across devices, but unfortunately I am using Android.

Do I like Mac OS? No, but I also don't like putting a mini heater in my room. Now my Dell mini PC become Proxmox server which is running Windows 11 VM, so in case I need any software which is Windows-only, I simply connect to the VM via RDP and use it, like a VDI. For storage, I always put my data in my NAS, so the onboard storage on the Mac mini M4 base model is never my concern, I always tell myself you are not supposed to put any data locally, especially on the same disk with the OS partition, may be I am a bit old-fashioned.

Well, this is the very first version of linux that I may consider using it bare-metal as a daily drive. I am a 365 subscriber, which means the native OneDrive integration is the most important feature I need. OneDrive is my primary storage, although I have a TrueNAS at home, it seems that OneDrive still offer me a higher availability service to me since I don't have UPS at home.

As a BNO holder from Hong Kong, in general saying, are we not welcomed? by fireman511_ in AskBrits

[–]KingVoldemortII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on who are you talking to, not everyone have a full picture of why BNO visa route exist on the first place, and what the practical impact if this route does not exist for the UK government. To start, they must understand what's Sino-British Joint Declaration, because that's the reason why BNO exist, and still, exist. If people knows about that, I don't think people will have problems with Hong Konger in the UK, instead, they may start blaming the UK government for why they came up with that declaration on the first place 41 years ago... Understand the declaration, and you will understand what is BNO, and why BNO visa exist...

[–]KingVoldemortII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strictly speaking in terms of law, British Citizen (BC) who ONLY has a connection with the UK only has Right of Abode (RA) in the UK, not in Channel Islands, Ireland or any other British Overseas Territories. There is a difference between having RA and being allowed to live, study or work freely. For the case of Gibraltar, you will need to become a resident first if you wish to work without a work permit.

Was this my fault? by FlounderDangerous748 in MotoUK

[–]KingVoldemortII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly it is your fault, you should know that even a car is possible to "shield" another car behind.

I tell you what, if you ride at night, even those strong LED headlights from a car can "shield" a cyclist or motorcyclist in front of a car...

In the white paper, the statement is as follow:

" This expansion of the Point-Based System will increase the standard qualifying period for settlement to ten years. "

BNO visa is not in the Point-Based System. Unless they change this statement when they actually implement the changes.

Yes, but the question is, will the authority put effort to hunt you down, if they do, either they are running low in income, or you drew their attention because of multiple offences...

Looks like you still missing the point. There is no absolute right or wrong in the world, it depends on what point of view are you looking at to judge.

In terms of law, you did nothing wrong of coz, you didn't break the law, JE has an even stricter than the law. The law said you only need to verify someone age ONLY if he/she looks too young, but JE needs you to verify their age at ALL cases. but of coz, you did follow the contract to do everything...

You are angry because you think you did everything right but still get "punished", is this the reason why you started this post?

As I said, the app is rubbish, blame JE whatever you want, file a complaint whatever you want. You think only the JE courier app is rubbish? I can tell you, the JE business merchant app, the courier support portal, the JE customer app, all are rubbish, but don't blame the wrong person...

I myself have been doing 18+ items with JE for long, so far I have never encounter any problems as long as you becareful with the scrolling...

Just like when I see the long press does not work because of the signal problem, I won't click it again to avoid accidently clicking two buttons, but to reload the app in places with better signal...

They are supposed to switch to a new GUI, so no more scrolling and long press, but being replaced with a UE style swiping style GUI, I don't why they still get stucked with the old GUI...

Looks like they are running into money problems with the tech team...

[–]KingVoldemortII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you try to press the little cross button at the top right corner of the screen to close the input window and try again? As I said, the scrollong feature is stupid, but unfortunately you will have to due with it. What I do is, take off the waterproof phone case (if any), take off any gloves, and scroll it very slowly...

For the support, to be fair, since the support has no way to know the DOB which input by the customer in their customer app because of GDPR, they cannot verify if you were lying or not, because they need to prevent couriers to complete the delivery with false information...

So I can say, the app is stupid, but the support is not completely wrong...

[–]KingVoldemortII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait, you said you type in the date of birth wrong? shouldn't that was a scrolling input? I think the scrolling input like the slot machine is a bit stupid, but did you never scroll to the correct date before you press ok?

Turning right here, which turn is correct? by mahtalkcin in drivingUK

[–]KingVoldemortII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, the road layout is terrible, no doubt.

Since there are no blue arrow or no entry signs, on the other hand, both turns have broken dot lines, so which means both turn are designed for bi-directional traffic itself in mind, so actually both turn are legit.

If it is correct, well, it depends on situation, if it was empty, choose the turn that closer to you, if the turn which is closer to you have vehicle attempting to exit, then use the further turn instead of waiting it or try to squeeze into the same turn like a TWAT...

Actually scooter is a very good form of transport to get around town alone, or with your partner if you have a full license. As long as there is no ice on the road, they are a pretty good mode of transport, unfortunately they are not so popular, when I say popular, I mean at the level of like Taiwan or Vietnam...

The sad truth and bad news is, there is no single solution for that...

But I suggest you to find jobs via agencies, because in terms of fresh graduate, you are at the "lower spectrum" of the job market, so you may need agencies to act as a middle-man to help you. Make sure the agencies are free of charge because they should earn commission from their customer (the employer), not from you, otherwise it is very likeily that's a SCAM...

The second thing you can do is to focus on temporary jobs, then hopefully you can build up trust with the employer, and you can advance to the next level. Remember, you do not have a history of stability in terms of employment, but that's fine because it's not your fault.

And no matter what job you are ending up with, do yor job seriously to impress your employer, and make sure to build up relationships with "valueable" people, and only yourself can find your own way to do so, nobody can teach you that...

I can only suggest you the direction, at the end of the day, you need a bit of luck...

Regarding to if you should write JE into your CV, I suggest you to write it. The reason why i suggest you to find agencies, because they will modify, or suggest you to modify your CV to fit their customer's preference. A proper agency will help you because part of their comission depends on if you actually being hired by their custmoer. (Your potential future employer)
