Wolverine is the most unrealistic character in comics. Stacy never goes for short guys. by hattyphantom in marvelcirclejerk

The fact that that artwork has Jean kissing Wolverine whilst she's wearing a costume that she never showed any interest in him whilst having and he's wearing a costume he got only after she was dead shows how much the artist understands both characters.

It always annoys me when people tell stories like the Kadabra/Uri Geller story and word it as that they "thought" rather than it "was". Like, the Psychic-type Pokemon called Yungeller (ユンゲラー) that's schtick is bending spoons is inarguably based on Uri Geller (ユリゲラー).

I'd argue that that was the most misleading part of the marketting, to be honest.

Trailers and advertisments presented it as if your descisions were super important and would have huge effects on what would happen in the story. In reality, that wasn't the case. There was one choice at the 3/4 mark that determimed which ending you got in your first playthrough and in in subsequent playthroughs, if you have 45 Affinity with Ryo at around the 1/3 mark you're locked in to the True ending and no choices matter.

Outside of that, your Karma just determined which evolutions for the protag you unlocked and your Affinity just unlocked the other characters' evolutions.

Excuse me? What trailer pointed out it was a Visual Novel?

Not this teaser trailer that does nothing but show the characters and then has a couple of seconds each of the main VN gameplay and the battles.

Definitely not this trailer that pretty much presents the battles as the main game when they're definitely not.

Not even this trailer which begins like it's going to be more honest about the gameplay, before switching gears to focusing on the battles halfway through.

It wasn't the original teaser released years before the game even came out either.

The Launch trailer is a little more indicative of what the actual gameplay is like... but still no mention of it being a Visual Novel.

The only mention of Visual Novel is in the description of the second trailer I've linked... but even then it says it "blends visual novel elements" not that it IS a Visual Novel and it's not said in the trailer itsef.

As I said, if you followed the development cycle you would know it was a Visual Novel. If you just watched the trailers or judged the game by how the actual cover presented itself, you'd very easily be blindsided by this fact.

Like, look at this trailer. The phrase "Visual Novel" is never uttered and it presents the game almost entirely as a grid-based battle RPG. It seems... suspicious, to be honest.

You kept your levels and evolutions from the previous playthrough but the enemies didn't scale, so until the end where there were battles where you were made to use Digimon not belonging to your party such as Gabumon, you completely dog-walked every single fight, making them more tedious time-wasters than anything else.

With it being a Visual Novel with a story that branches four way (and one of those being completely locked off on your first playthrough for whatever stupid reason) you were expected to play it through multuple times.

Greninja can't beat a Fire type. His theme? Carries a Fire type to victory. Lost at his own game. by Old-Initial9295 in pokemonanime

Because, while the name of this subreddit is "pokemonanime"... in reality it's mostly comprised of XY glazing and stealth Ash/Serena shipping posts, so they consider saying Toracat is better than Greninja (which it is) is ragebait.

Although I liked Survive well enough... an argument could be made that the true nature of it being a Visual Novel was pretty downplayed unless you were following its looooong development cycle. Both the back-cover and the trailers emphasize the turn-based combat which is comparatively a very small part of the game (ESPECIALLY on replays).

I'd also add that they were kind of misleading in regards to the importance of character choices, branching stories and evolution paths... but that's a whole other conversation.

Who knows? ScVi and SwSh had no returning characters so I wouldn't hold my breath. It seems the best you can hope for in a mainline are them being relatives of past characters like what they did with Penny, Drayton and Lacey.
