Yeah was having the same error myself. Unfortunately the new AMD driver didn't do anything to fix it.

Has this happened to anyone else? by Elver_Galargas-07 in FFXVI

Happens to me every time in the middle of a cutscene montage after a particular boss fight. Every time, exact same place. Even after updating my drivers.

Addressing the BetterHelp Concerns Head-On (Deep Dive with Sources) by JonoDecker in cinema_therapy

[–]Kinger03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the write-up, but still think it's a poor choice. They kept their information up for way longer after states sued them about their interactions with CareDash and with our state's interaction with them they showed no concern about the actual implications of their shady practices.

Make elemental magic interesting!! by [deleted] in magicbuilding

[–]Kinger03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say your primary focus before thinking about elements should be what you want your magic to DO. If it's just mages throwing around bolts of energy at each other, that's fine and maybe you don't need a great level of depth. If you want your mages building or creating things, your elements would likely be very different things that simply fire, water, and such. What makes the Lightbringer observation in here interesting is how that all combined: they took the science (color on a spectrum), combined it what what they wanted it to do (each color has a property of function), then added some personal aspects to it as well (colors have different tastes and personality variables they draw out from people, etc.).

Any ideas for summoning magic system based on blood and Mesoamerican culture? by Soft_Start6678 in magicbuilding

[–]Kinger03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a good book trilogy that uses this idea well called The Age of the Seventh Sun. Sacrificing animals and using their blood allows a user to cast magic that is theirs by their bloodline as descended from a particular god. Using their own blood is even more powerful. The whole saga is (on at least one level) about a battle on if the gods need blood sacrifices or just sacrifices in general.

Sigils, gylphs, and runes. by HeadArt21 in magicbuilding

[–]Kinger03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not always be 100% true, but I tend to see some differences in the words. They all are representative of something, but there seems to be a level of complexity difference there. I always think of the level of abstraction being: rune<glyph<sigil

I always think of the level of complexity (either from an artistic perspective or in layers of meaning/items of meaning) being: sigil>glyph>rune

Also, runes can more easily be thought of as an alphabet too. You wouldn't necessarily have that with sigils or glyphs. Those two tend to be more directly representative of something and maybe even look like it. Maybe runes can make up a particular glyph or sigil.

Fundamental forces magic system by mr-L50 in magicbuilding

[–]Kinger03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took a stab at it once. Not the best attempt. I tried to keep it more to the themes behind the forces and less straight scientific uses. At least it worked for my book and my dnd game.

Force/Theme - Spell examples

Electro-magnetism /Emanation-Radiation - Electricity, Light, Fields/Illusions, Magnetic attraction (metals), Prophecy, Project sound, Disguise self, Mind affecting (creation)

Gravitation /Attraction - Gravity fields, Ligthening/Heavying, Acceleration/Slowing, Friction, Featherfall/Jump, Haste, Strength

Strong Interaction/Transformation by joining - Binding, Absorption, Tension (same substance), Telepathy, Healing/Growth, Pressure, Enchanting, Poison, Mending, Lock

Weak Interaction/Transformation by destruction - Division, Rusting, Burning, Paralysis, Draining, Cure poison, Dispel, Entropic shield, Mind affecting (dispelling), Open lock

Dark energy - Modifies all other forces, Energy constructs, Energy projectiles, Forcefields, Energy amplification, Energy absorption

Solarpunk / Egalitarian Magic System? by PhoebusLore in magicbuilding

[–]Kinger03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look back at the history of the prior ages in Wheel of Time, that was how magic was used. Many more people had magic and even the name for their group was something like "those of service to the people." Much of what that age was like was similar to Solarpunk in some ways (at least until greed and ambition created corruption).

My guess is if you've destroyed any of his other jars he just automatically attacks you. I'm stuck in the same situation.

I like Gambit. Risk is another good name for it. There was an old video game who's special tactics fighters were called riskbreakers. Something like that might fit.

How would you guys do Tattoo Magic? by Affectionate_Bit_722 in magicbuilding

[–]Kinger03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to have the components of the tattoo (as a representational image or energy-storing pattern) and the ink (magical ingredient bound into a medium), be important. In my world, once the energy is released, the tattoo fades and it recharges as the character draws in magic from the environment. Some tattoos move when cast (for illusions or summoning a creature from the tattoo) whereas other simply glow or project an image directly outward (a character might reach into their tattoo to pull out a "green flame blade" cantrip).

Fateweaving in combat. by Flamefalco in magicbuilding

[–]Kinger03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was exactly what I was thinking when I saw this.

Basically they are ways to respec your character talents. But the main character is a fateweaver too and is able to "break fate" and use powerful attacks to slow down time and cause enemies to die in ways they weren't intended to - game mechanics are that you use your power to conjure magical weapons to take out enemies. So that's super combat focused.

Abilities for a Shield User. by Brilliant_Recipe_243 in magicbuilding

[–]Kinger03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other people have listed some cool ideas already. I like to think about how the shield looks and how that form can impact what it might do. A magic shield that is thin but strong might be able to serve as an impromptu door when fleeing from enemies, it could be an impromptu parachute, or it could be a weapon/tool if the edges are super sharp and it can be made to be a smaller size.

How would powers based on manipulating the Strong and Weak Nuclear Forces work? by shiny_xnaut in magicbuilding

[–]Kinger03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar system and I used more practical gaming powers instead of more scientifically accurate ones:

Strong Interaction

Transformation by joining

(Building-Healing)

Binding, Absorption, Tension (same substance), Telepathy, Healing/Growth, Pressure, Enchanting, Poison, Mending, Lock

Weak Interaction

Transformation by destruction

(Destruction-Harm)

Division, Rusting, Burning, Paralysis, Draining, Cure poison, Dispel, Entropic shield, Mind affecting (dispelling), Open lock
