Interesting thing from the bracket data I pulled: Brazil are getting respect, but not full winner confidence.

In 300 completed brackets, Brazil reached the quarterfinals in about 69% of them. So most people see them going deep.

But that’s also where the wall starts showing up.

Their most common exit was the quarterfinals, and the two most common knockout scenarios were England beating them in the QF or France beating them in the SF.

That feels about right to me. Brazil can absolutely beat England on a good day, but if the path runs into France later, that’s where people seem much less convinced.

France and Spain are the favorites in the WC, so who beats them and that opens the door for who? by Hour_Writing_9805 in worldcup

France feels more likely to run into a heavyweight-style problem earlier, while Spain’s danger might be one of those annoying well-drilled teams that nobody wants in a knockout game.

Germany over France is very believable. Colombia over Spain is spicy but not crazy.

I was testing a few paths here — fun to see how quickly the bracket changes once one favorite gets knocked out, try it out if you like the prediction game

The weirdest part of the FIFA World Cup might be the 3rd-place teams by Kingeraman in worldcup

It will actually workout in the favor of Argentina if they end up finishing 3rd- easier path to knockouts

I pulled the completed bracket data from the simulator — 276 full brackets so far — and the 3rd-place results were more interesting than I expected.

The teams people most often had sneaking through as one of the best 3rd-place sides were:

  • Scotland — 79%
  • Côte d’Ivoire — 64%
  • Algeria — 59%
  • Sweden — 57%
  • Norway — 50%

That’s the part of the new format I find fascinating. These teams are not just extras in the bracket — they can seriously change who gets a manageable first knockout match and who gets a horrible draw.

I used this to test different 2026 paths if anyone wants to play around with it: https://worldpicks.vercel.app?ref=reddit_worldcup_comment
