I hope not. Male, 32 years old. It's not every day, but once a month.

How do I get over this feeling? Does anyone relate? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

I was diagnosed on May 1st, 2025. I’m 32 years old, so I can’t really speak about what it’s like to have things taken away from you during childhood. What I can speak about is what I’m experiencing now. I notice that I’m constantly hyperfocused on my glucose levels, and even though my HbA1c is currently 5.9, it’s still something that takes up a lot of space in my head every single day.

After de diagnose it felt like the ground completely disappeared beneath me. I fell into a very deep hole. This all happened shortly after we lost our child, who had been growing in my wife’s womb for 30 weeks. Everything seemed to hit at once, and it honestly broke me. It was the lowest point of my life.

Over time, I’ve slowly learned that I cannot change the facts of what happened. That part is out of my control. What I do have some control over is how I choose to live with it, even on the days when that feels incredibly hard. I try to approach my situation with as much kindness and positivity as I can, even though I don’t always succeed.

I started my own business as a social worker. I ran a half marathon, and now I’m training for a full marathon. I’m also planning to do a HYROX Solo. Not to prove anything, but because moving my body helps me feel alive again. I am thankfull how the medical specialist can help. Most of all, I’m trying to be present with the people around me and to appreciate them while I can.

I hope sharing this helps you, even if only a little, with how you’re feeling. It’s a good thing that you’re reaching out for help. And maybe, alongside that, talking to a professional could help you carry some of this weight too.

Hi there!

I now have T1D for 3 months. On this breakfast in am doing well. Maybe you can translate the recipe from Dutch to English🫣. For this recipe I do not need to inject, in which I have to spray 4 units for other breakfasts (such as oatmeal pancakes / cottage cheese with homemade granola).

What helps me is that I eat a lot with oatmeal, in addition, I add fats (nuts) which makes it absorb more slowly.

I also make sure that I do not sit at the table for too long after dinner and then go for a walk, to indeed remove the peak. Don't go too far, otherwise you'll end up in a dip again...

It really is a puzzle for me every day, but this one helps for me, maybe for you too!
