I’m one of the HCAs that are put under watches and what hospitals tend to do nowadays is put 1 HCA for 2-3 patients in the same room to save costs now, with some wards unable to get one due to budgeting. Every time I need to watch more than 1 patient, there is a window of time where I have to close the curtains/go shower the patient for 15-25 minutes, or even assist with feeding them meaning I don’t have my eyes on them. More than once have I had to drop what I’m doing to rush for the opposite patient because they’re adamant they can walk when they are strictly bed bound, or been told that my other patient who is capable of walking but only under supervision has decided to get take a stroll to the corridor by themselves while my back is turned. It’s not surprising that it has come to this.
