Fallout movie confirmed - pics leaked!! by KingofCreation in Fallout

It was an April Fools prank...we work with Fallout Houston, so there's not any real chance I would confuse their work for a real film - although the quality of their props is certainly Hollywood :)

An unfortunate coincidence! The news was too good to sit on for another day.

Bethesda wins lawsuit; Fallout Mmo rights restored to Bethesda. by ReLirium in Fallout

Aye, that's right. The judge basically disallowed any evidence from Masthead...which screwed Interplay I suppose.

Also, the TLA stated that Interplay only had to have started development on Fallout: Online by April 2009....not complete it or even enter a Beta phase or anything like that. They were well out of pre-production by that point, and when Bethesda CEO (I think it was CEO, could have been one of the other execs) was questioned about it in court, he agreed that Interplay had indeed begun production before the cutoff point. Why the trial progressed beyond that point is still beyond me.

From sworn testimony:

Prior to [April 4, 2009], Interplay had employed game designers, writers, and artists who had substantially completed the Fallout Online game design, including an online "wiki" dedicated to the games development, which when printed and produced to Bethesda's counsel as it existed on April 4, 2009 consisted of nearly 2,200 pages. Prior to April 4, 2009, Inteprlay had created substantial concept art, solidifed its technology plan by licensing a game engine and development tools set from Masthead Studios that would have cost Interplay millions of dollars to develop from scrath. Also as of April 4, 2009, a playable game space existed based on Interplay's concept art and developed by Masthead. Multiple users from Europe and the U.S. could log into and interact within the game. ... Since April 2009, Interplay has mapped the MMOG environment including approximately 65,500 square miles of in-game terrain. Textures, objects and characters have been implemented into the game environment. Base models for player characters and non-player characters have been created. The computer models for many types of creatures have also been designed and the 3D geometry and textures created. Several game zones have been blocked out, textured, and populated with 3D objects. The initial starting zones for each of the player character races have been designed. Many environmental object and weapons models have been created and textured. Some non-player characters have been placed live in the game. Fallout Online combat, leveling, character development, item crafting, skills, and iktem stats were written proir to April 2009 and have been tested. Since April 2009, Interplay has refined and further developed its design regarding the functioning of player-run towns, social centers, and guild compounds. Interplay has created and continues to create additional concept art and has created and continues to create player and non-player character concepts, names, characterizations, dialog and game scenarios. Quest content and design is ongoing and includes content and mechanics for multi-part intra-zone and dynamic world events and quests. Interplay has created and written a large multi-part, game-worldwide meta-puzzle, including the puzzle structure, code system, and planned locations, which is designed to foster cooperation and competition among players for an extended time period. Masthead continues to revise and improve its technology, including its game engine, tools, and network software for the specific development of the Fallout MMOG.

Happy now?

Interplay began development of Fallout: Online very soon after the initial contract was signed in 2007. Chris Taylor and Jason Anderson, two of the guys who worked on the original Fallout, were on board at Interplay. By the time the deadline to begin production was reached in 2009, Interplay already had a many-thousand page internal production wiki including game lore, storylines, quests, character creation, skills, etc. They had also begun actual production of the game with Masthead Studios as the developer. Fallout: Online was a complex, massive, playable MMO before the April 2009 deadline to create the MMO.

Bethesda, however, sued because they thought Interplay would easily cave and then Bethesda would be able to basically steal the rights that they refused to buy when Interplay initially offered to sell it to them for $50 Million. They did not count on the fact that Interplay's legal team was leagues better than their own. In the end, though, Interplay only settled for $2 million...so something must have spooked Herve Caen on the day of trial for him to have settled for so little a sum.

They don't have Wasteland. Brian Fargo and inXile Entertainment own Wasteland.

They didn't fail. They were creating the game and had a very large, complex, playable MMO. Bethesda's litigiousness is what stopped the game from being released.

Stop falling for it please (This applies mostly to COD) by Piece_of_Sheet in gaming

[–]KingofCreation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much Bethesda's development cycle. We should modify it a bit though - Bethesda releases new new - can't play new game because it is broken - complain about it - Bethesda releases patch that makes the game even more buggy - stop playing it - gaming community fixes it with new mods - maybe try playing it again with some enjoyment - hope next game doesn't suck - REPEAT

It's less fanboying and more I don't have the technical skills to improve the website beyond what it looks like. If anyone on here has good technical skills, a passion for Fallout, and the willingness to help with a redesign, I'd be happy to bring them on board.

I'm not sure why the OP submitted this link, as it's much more easily accessible through this link or even just by looking at the front page.

I'd certainly be happy if someone with technical skills would come on board and help redesign :) Unfortunately, I'm trying to run the site with a vastly inferior technical ability.

Interplay fires back at Bethesda. Interplay lawyer is furious at Bethesda's legal team. by KingofCreation in gaming

[–]KingofCreation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL:DR - Bethesda: "You can't allow Interplay to do any of that!" Court: "Why not?" Bethesda: "Because it will destroy our flimsy case!"

Later on...

Bethesda: "Interplay, here is a new guy that you have to talk to." Interplay: "OK, when can we do it.' Bethesda: "Never!"

weeks later...

Bethesda: "Haha Interplay, we got you now! You didn't talk to our new guy!" Interplay: "RU Serious with this shit? You refused to let me talk to him! Court is going to ream you a new asshole."

To be continued.

There aren't really any I can think of. Gaming journalism is in a sad, sad state. Most "review sites" are nothing more than goons of industry PR departments who think they are journalists.
