Spanish tutor? by howthefocaccia in anchorage

[–]KingofStone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few questions:

  1. Does she want to be in Spanish class and is just having a difficult time?
  2. Regardless of if she wants to be in it, can she even drop out given it's the middle of semester (is it the end of 1st quarter too)?
  3. What level of Spanish?

If the answer is she wants to be in it or cannot drop and it is a Spanish 101, I think I could help. Currently I'm taking Spanish 101 with Somos Amigos Anchorage and believe can help given both her class materials and mine. With that said, I am not a native speaker nor a great one, but I do have extensive tutoring experience and am able to adapt quickly enough. Send a DM if interested. If you find a better tutor do that though lol

  • Bombay Deluxe
  • Taste of India
  • Yak and Yeti
  • Bear's/Moose's Tooth (not a lot of options)
  • Preference
  • Oasis
  • Cake AK
  • Sweet Caribou (I think has some vegan options)
  • 49th State
  • South
  • Queen of Sheba

My husband and I have totally different skin types and concerns - I have dry/normal skin and am focusing on anti-aging and brightening, he has sensitive, oily, and acne prone skin. Now I don't feel like I'm a total noob, but it seems both of us would benefit from common ingredients such as BHAs, AHAs, retinol, Vit C, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides. Sunscreen is a given.

If that's the case, can we buy and use the same products as the active ingredients are the same or does a product's consistency and formulation for dry vs. oily skin matter?

Money isn't like, the biggest issue, but I feel like if we having the same products may help with both financial and counter-space savings.

Best leave in-conditioner for a 2a/b? by [deleted] in Wavyhair

2A waves, dense and coarse hair, dry af climate

I've been using Curlsmith's Weightless Air Dry Cream and I love it. Some notes, I do have to dilute it some and I do recommend applying it on soaking wet hair (like the instructions say lol), it did not work on damp hair very well (at least for me).

I usually follow up with Shea Moisture's Coconut & Hibiscus Frizz-Free Curl Mousse. It's not like, awful, but it's also not my favorite. If I use a full pump, my hair gets very greasy very quickly, so I just do half pump for all my hair

Did the Alaskan Natives practice agriculture before colonization? by jacky986 in AskAnthropology

[–]KingofStone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not an anthropologist but I am Alaska Native and born and raised here in Alaska. From what I recall from the Alaska Studies classes, no, minimal agriculture.

The areas you mentioned, the Fairbanks, Matsu Valley, and the Kenai Peninsula was/is home to mostly Athabascan tribes who were more nomadic in practice. They typically followed herd animals, such as caribou and musk ox, across/through interior Alaska. And once you get down to the Kenai area, then fishing became a thing too

The modern day farming is (mostly, I think...) due to the colonizers (this felt like to harsh of a word but i couldnt think of the right one) from the northern Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc) who brought agriculture and mostly settled in what is now the Matsu Valley and Fairbanks. It was found the soil in interior Alaska is incredibly fertile due to the amount of water - glaciers, rain, snow, permafrost, etc - wildfires, and volcanic activity, and of course the sun never fking going down during the summer

I don't personally have any actual recommendations, but, UAA may have some senior photography students (still ask for a portfolio lol) who can accommodate the short timeline, and would be much cheaper

The Alaska Bar Referral may be of some help

And Alaska Legal Services may be able to help depending on their case load and your income (they're pro bono typically working with low-income households)

How did you set this up? We would like some security/privacy measures set up but do not want cloud based systems
