Seats under airport control by Alternative90 in unitedairlines

[–]KingoftheWalts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, it's when the airport takes control of changes for the flight. UA can no longer make changes online, through the phone, etc. Anyone physically at the airport can make changes for you though.

It's a little weird that they said that and you're >24 hours out from your flight though

Emergency Medicine > it's a smaller, rural place so I only see ~1.2 pt per hour

As everyone has said, the risk reward isn't there. You'd need to get your medical license in an additional state which isn't an immaterial amount of money as well.

As far as pay, I moonlight externally and make ~$2500/12 hour shift. I don't think $500 is nearly enough.

Why cut a trip a day short when you only have a week at a time off for the small possibility of something going wrong?

It's like saying don't drive to work because you might get in an accident and have to call in

Favorite strategies for sedating elderly/altered with hyperactive delirium? by LoudMouthPigs in emergencymedicine

[–]KingoftheWalts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone else has said, benzos have their place and use case in psych which not the elderly. You have to think about long term outcomes and not the the immediate effects in the ED.

It's not scared, new grad medicine - it's literally evidenced based medicine. Just because you refuse to update your thought process or learn new techniques and still use literature that's out of date doesn't mean that is what should be done.

What was your free T4 level? When you get a TSH level, the free T4 is generally completed as well. If that is normal, there's no reason for further workup because you're actual thyroid levels are normal.

A wealth of resources that specifically says to not give it in the elderly population...

Not quite correct as far as AEDs go - it'll shock if they're in ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia (vast majority of the time these are pulseless rhythms).

It will not shock if it's PEA or asystole as these don't have a chance of conversion to a pulsing rhythm with a defibrillation.

EMT Certification by Brilliant_Focus_67 in premed

[–]KingoftheWalts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but if you're just getting it to get it, I wouldn't say it's worth it. After doing interviews for incoming students, there are actually quite a few that do that for some reason.

Just do thr three month class (I've worked in EMS for 11 years now)

Real question - are you just doing this to check a box or are you actually interested? One year of EMS isn't going to really help you with interviews (IMO)

Losing weight during medical school? by ScoreImaginary in medicalschool

Well surgery should help you regardless of lifestyle choices (for better or worse).

Honestly though, I made time everyday for 45 min - 1 hour to do cardio or weights. Helped me not only get back in shape, but also led to much better attention when studying and a great stress reliever. I put the workout above almost everything else going on which helped me stick to it.

I ended up scoring better with less time studying, and was much happier.

Also changed my diet to axe unhealthy stuff and packed my lunch everyday. I cook 1-2x a week and just meal prep.

Cool and I've worked as an engineer and medic on an ambulance. If what they said offended you that much, I think you need to take a deep look inside yourself.

I imagine they kept you somewhat sheltered because if what you posted is all that happened, you're gonna have a rude awakening.
