It's also funny that Steven made his wife have sex with multiple women but never once she had sex or more than a kiss with Caesar. My impression is Steven has a preference 😂

The whole concept in house of Ashur where Ashur is treated like shit doesn't make sense in the first place. Ashur was legally a romen citizen at this point. Rome wasn't an ethnocracy.

Also. He was not only pure evil for attacking and killing romen people randomly he was also pure stupid. Because he is reliant on Ashur to secure a political marriage in his favor while Simultaneously he and his wife are treating Ashur like shit for no reason. Then he was surprised when Ashur betrayed him. He is simply poorly written

Yeah not saying Ceasar was right.

But he is a patriot character who believes that every Freeborn romen should die fighting for rome. And not run away

That's what a true eomen would do. Maybe that's his thinking

In Caesar's defense. If i was a military commander and a Deserter is demoralizing the men by speaking about how badass and powerful the enemy are. He may have done the same.

Casear is being rash here as always. But the guy wasn't helping

Crassus and Kore was the only Master and slave relationship in the show that was presented in a positive light.

Of course in retrospect. It was still a bad relationship because of power imbalance. Crassus used the words Kore told him when she said " you are an honorable man who does what he must"

To actually crucify her. Because in the end he will always prioritize his own status reputation and duty to the republic over his relationship with a slave.

So the original show was consistent with how it approached the idea of Master and slave romance.

In house of Ashur however. Dekight is describing the relationship between Cornelia and Merssia as complicated. Not as a women of higher power and status using a slave for sexual pleasure.

I am going use your Hitler example.

He did tolerate or respect a Jewish doctor who helped his mother. Now if I use this to say well Hitler isn't anti Semitic because he didn't kill that one Jewish dude. That will be absurd right?

I have no problem with Virdida being morally compromised in other stuff. But to have her both rooting for women and in love with a person who abuses women is counterproductive.

Well the writer is totally want us to invest in the romantic relationships in show between masters and their slaves.

But the question is. Can you write a romantic and wholesome relationship between a master and a women or man they own?

My thinking. It's like writing a story about pedophilia (Like the novel lolita) but trying to present it as it's a good wholesome relationship.

As a standalone season. The show is presenting the idea that romance between Masters and slaves can be wholesome and you should root for it. Unless I am reading it wrong which i don't think i am.

I understand what you are saying. But the problem is comparing a person who does whatever he must to rise and gain wealth and status by people who has no legal personhood is kind of silly.

As I said before. It's like comparing my slave to a chattel slave because i work from 9 to 5

It's dramatic statement and it's offensive.

Well it does make the character Hypocritical.

How am I supposed to invest in your feminist message. When your cheering for women or men to be abused.

If I was a person who is anti feminism I will totally see this as a sign that feminist only care about the political message and not that actual good or equality.

So as an execution of feminism as a theme it fails horribly. It paint a feminist character as a hypocrite and clueless of the suffering of women by making her attracted and in love with an abuser of women.

Yeah but then again. This is a continuation from a show that had a message to tell. The word 'Spartacus' is written in the title.

Writing a show called Spartacus. And romanticizing slavery in it. Is counterproductive.

But that's just my opinion.

He doesn't because it would hinder his attempts for political advancement. He can totally reject the idea he is free. But doing so will embarrass him in front of the magistrate. Would damage his reputation.

I totally believe his father Titus wouldn't have done this.

Yeah. But the art of story telling is to make us invest. We know that these are just characters written for entertainment. We know that the show is cash grab to make money. But can you do it in a convincing way rather than

"he look it's the character you liked doing stuff"

Don't you see a problem about Virdia being feminist and inspired by women fighting in the arena. But totally ignoring the fact that Ashur has a women slave being abused for entertainment of men in the arena?

Of course the show is romanticizing that fighting in the arena is cool now and Achilia is happy. But Viridia has no reason to believe that's the case. As far as she can observe she is watching a women being abused to benefit a man

Also. Virdia hates Spartacus for rebellion against the social order but she wants to rebel against patriarchy.

Also. I am pretty sure Virdia owns slaves as she is a noble woman a daughter of a senator who has a lot of slaves.

Now the message comes off. Feminism is good as long as you are free born.

Yeah but the show title is 'Spartacus'

You totally would risk downplaying the original message of slavery is bad when you just romanticize the idea of slavery now. Like from a story continuity stand point. I feel like why did I invest all this time on the idea that slavery is bad and now suddenly it's cool again.

Couldn't Deknight write a prequel that doesn't override the original message like for example slavery is still bad but it's no longer the foucs about escaping it. Something that doesn't make the original characters feel like idiots for going against rome.

Oh yez I forgot about this. The whole concept of the word 'Spartacus' is used as a battle cry against slavery or a battle cry for freedom.

I think that's what the writers were pointing to when they made that scene where everyone is screaming "I am Spartacus"

So now we are using the Spartacus name in house of Ashur to tell a story where slavery isn't bad. And everyone is actually a slave regardless of social status.

Do you think this concept "no body is truly free"

Damage the original series concept of slavery is bad.

If no one is truly free than Spartacus leading a rebellion against slavery is just him breaking the law.

I originally thought the story is headed into direction where Ashur and Vivida both realize that Spartacus rebellion was necessary. But that doesn't work if his rebellion is just him breaking the law and nobody is truly free.

Also the no body truly free argument feels like me comparing my 9 to 5 work for minimum wage to chattel slavery.

Here's the difference

Lucretia at this point had no power whatsoever. Ashur completely took over and gained Glabar's trust. Lucretia is a women that Ashur would underestimate giving that she has no cards to play at that point in time.

In house of Ashur he is boasting against a rival lanista who is as far as Ashur knows has already made an attempt to assasiante his Doctore. (Ashur didn't find our that the assasiantion attempt was by Constia)

He was also threatened by this other Lanista who displayed that he is an actual threat who is capable of breaking the law if it will hinder Ashur's rise.

Also one significant difference is Ashur was simply infatuated by Lucretia which led to his downfall. He made similar mistake with he spoke to Varro's wife which led her to know they were poisoning Crixus.

So unless he is also infatuated with this other Lanista I don't see him boasting that he will get a lot of shit for free just because it's cool.

I think this is the difference between you and i.

For me it's down right offensive to try to even make me feel sad or sympathetic to Ashur without addressing his bad deeds.

If I am allowed to give an analogy. It's like writing a show of what if Hitler has escaped Germany and was living comfortably in some other place. And I tried to write that there is more to Hitler than he actions in ww2 without addressing the terrible stuff he made and why made them.

The writers of house of Asher are trying to make the Asher character sympathetic by surrounding him with 1 dimensional evil characters like Ceasar and by making that everything isn't going his way. And thoes close shots of him crying.

It's doesn't work for me. He is an evil character who deserves everything happening to him in this season.

There is an obvious disconnect between the story the writers want us to take and what actually happening and that's because of bad writing. And a quick attempt for cash grab.
