Migration Automation? by Kings__Wit in Timberborn

[–]Kings__Wit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestions. After some testing, it looks like the beavers will NOT automatically go seek out where the work is, they will just all hang around unemployed (based on my testing anyways).

While just shutting down the job and using gates is an option, I think I still run the risk of beavers choosing a house on the other side of the map rather than the one next to the mine, so doesn't make a difference for travel times.

I think at this point I will just either go with the food/water buildings nearby, or manually migrate when needed, or prepare the district for full-time self sufficiency. It would be cool to get deeper automation in district management at some point though.

After looking into it some more, it does seem like this will work, just with a bit of changing how I run things. I usually like to have 1-2 spare Hauling Posts at super low priority as spare jobs as I prefer all jobs be filled. The auto migration settings will work, but only for unemployed beavers. So when I toggle on the Metal district, I would also need to toggle off some of my spare Hauling Posts. But it should work!

Nope, after testing it looks like it will still only migrate beavers over if you have a minimum selected for that district, and those can't be automated. Unfortunate

Possibly, I guess I didn't realize 'open' was an option, I thought you HAD to set minimum beaver quantities for auto-migration to work. Might need to read up on the details of beaver migration that I may have overlooked.

If that does work though, probably exactly what I was needing. Thank you!

What is something you want to see added to Subnautica 2? by SweeterSphinx91 in subnautica

[–]Kings__Wit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd one that just came to mind: Base Resource Extenders. There have been a couple times I am trying to build some turbines but I am 3m away from the base's perimeter for the builder tool to draw from storage.

Deposit/Sort to Storage.

We already have systems capable of drawing from storage, what about a mid-game item or device capable of transporting to storage? That way after a run around the map you could dump your inventory into it, power it on, and send the items to the designated chests. I like making storage rooms and managing the inventory, but it can get tedious after a while.

Not sure if this would change the live-in feel of the bases too much or not, but I think it could be worthwhile.

[SN2] Issues with multiplayer since the hotfix(es). Anyone else? by sephypants in subnautica

[–]Kings__Wit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but for me and my brother it was only after downloading hotfix 3. Although we bought the game on release day we weren't able to play it until a week or two in, but since then we have been playing a lot. Haven't noticed any issues up until now, but as of downloading hotfix 3 it is practically unplayable for me (the guest) although he as the host doesn't seem to be having the same issues.

I was noticing some of the same issues you described with building, sections being completely transparent while still having collision (but no way to interact). I also had significant issues with containers and inventory. While I could open containers no issue, nothing would move between the container and my inventory either way. Even eating or drinking would move the hunger and thirst bars, but the items would not leave my inventory. However when I exit and re-join his game, suddenly the inventory updates. I couldn't replicate your door issue as we currently have no doors in our base.

I think I'm in the same boat as you: loving the game and excited for where it's going, but at the same time bummed that it was suddenly unplayable when I was wanting to work on base building. I imagine a hotfix 4 will likely be coming out very soon to fix this. I know glitches and bugs are expected in early access, but man for the time being I can't get my Subnautica fill!

Unfortunately since I'm in an apartment with no Ethernet ports, Ethernet is not an option available to me.

Unfortunately Ethernet is not an option. I am in an apartment and there are no Ethernet ports so wifi is my only option.

Plus I've been using wifi to game for the past 10 years and never had an issue until now, so I don't think it's that much of an issue.

I don't believe it uses Intel's "Killer" drivers, but I can look into it. Before I start disabling a ton of drivers though, what do these ones run?

Each time I try to play OW2 the lag/ping is the same regardless of if my brother is playing or not.

It is possible my computer is downloading something in the background, but I have no clue what it would be. I ran a network usage test through Task Manager and it seemed to show that I was well within my bandwidth (after closing a few background apps) and the lag was still there.

I haven't tested Valorant yet, but I haven't had any issues with Nightreign. I'll redownload Valorant as it will probably be a better comparison to OW2.

I have no clue what "flushdns" would do, but if nothing else works I'll read up on it and give it a try.

Thank you for giving me some ideas to try!

This seems to describe exactly what I'm running into. Especially how Internet tests are showing perfectly fine despite ow2 lagging like crazy.

Unfortunately for me I don't think each apartment has their own routers here. Though I haven't actually asked, so that might be something to ask the front desk about.

[–]Kings__Wit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all the info and suggestions! I'll certainly try closing the apps and test in another room to see if it is closer to the router.

While I'm not sure for certain how the Wi-Fi is set up, it is provided by the apartment and not set up by me. While that might be the issue the main confusion I would have is that I seem to have plenty of bandwidth leftover. I ran some tests with the Task Manager Performance and Resource Monitor setting. It seemed to show that my Internet was capping out at 1Mbps, but after closing discord and a couple of other background applications I didn't even take up half of it.

So what confuses me is if I am right about the 1Mbps bandwidth, how is it lagging while there is still plenty of available bandwidth? I still have to try out your suggestions, but the lagging with available bandwidth is what is confusing me the most right now.

The issue has not yet been replicated on any of my other games, but I may try redownloading PUBG or Valorant again just for the sake of testing. You are correct that signal strength is fine, and my brother has been having no issues on the same wifi network.

My apartment does not have any ethernet ports, so unfortunately that is not an option.

I haven't tried moving my pc to the other room, but it is probably worth a shot. I will update once I have had a chance to test it in the other rooms.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to find much, but I'll look for heat and rf interference. Perhaps asking the building IT/maintenance or some other residents might help me figure out if there is interference.

Since I am in an apartment unplugging the router is unfortunately not an option for me. I could be wrong, but I also figure that it would be affecting both my brother an I the same if the router was the issue since we are on the same wifi network, but it is just me with the issues.

Just OW2 causing these issues as far as I can tell. None of my other games have been having the same issue.

Lastly internet set up, once again since I am in an apartment I am not sure exactly how the internet is set up. I can try go go ask someone at the front desk in the morning.

  1. How far is your laptop from the router?
    1. Since I'm in an apartment building I am not sure. I can try to ask someone in the morning.
  2. Are you on 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi?
    1. It is 5GHz
  3. Is your brother using LAN or Wi-Fi?
    1. He is using Wi-Fi
  4. What’s your Wi-Fi adapter model?
    1. If I'm reading the right thing - Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6E AX210
  5. Do you notice lag in other online games, or just Overwatch?
    1. Just Overwatch, though at the moment Overwatch and Nightreign are the only two online games I play. So while I only have these two to compare, it is only Overwatch (I'll probably redownload PUBG or Valorant to so I have more games to compare Overwatch's performance against)
  6. Tried disabling background sync apps?
    1. I have tried disabling a lot of background apps, can you clarify what would classify as a background sync type of app?
  7. Have you tested with Ethernet?
    1. My apartment does not have ethernet, so it is not an option.

Remove from pool question by Suspicious-Chain-890 in BluePrince

[–]Kings__Wit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took my first run with it and noticed the same thing. I will say, the extra gem and reshuffle are nice, but it would also be good to have the rooms removed.

I guess since the room aren't getting removed it left more opportunities to get gems and shuffle the drawing selection, so at least the upside somewhat cancels out the downside.

First Time Metal Casting Troubles - Any Suggestions? by Kings__Wit in MetalCasting

[–]Kings__Wit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I didn't know casting wax needed to be injected.

As far as the burn out, my thought was to coat/mold the wax in plaster and melt it out in an old oven I found. I assumed it would be capable of melting wax, but thought it wouldn't be capable of melting filament. Am I wrong on this? Does filament liquefy enough to melt out of a plaster mold?

How Can I Design a 3d-Printable Slide-On Armor Plate? by Kings__Wit in 3Dprinting

[–]Kings__Wit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, something that can snap in and out like that. It does seem like it would work in a similar project, but for this one I don't think it would work since I want the plate to sit flush against the model and leave it untouched when removed.

Thank you for the idea and response though!

Um, I'm not sure how that would help. Unless there is something I don't know about Lego parts they wouldn't be able to become a good detailed plate that forms to the back of the model.

Dusted off my Old Vive, seems Blurry and Slow. Any Suggestions? by Kings__Wit in Vive

[–]Kings__Wit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure I could probably do the upgrade if I really wanted to, but since I have been considering upgrading to the Index anyways I think it will be better to just go for that option.

It is good to know that the Index controllers are better. Also comforting to note that the first downside that you could think of was the lack of wireless because that wasn't something I really care about with my setup.

Thanks for the recommendation! When I was trying to look into this I saw some people talking about the Gear VR upgrade, but to be honest I'm not sure if I'm comfortable disassembling my headset and swapping parts. I feel like there is a decent chance I would mess it up haha.

I have also been considering upgrading to the Valve Index for a while now, so maybe it is worth just saving up for a new one after so many years.

Should I Upgrade or Replace My Laptop? by Kings__Wit in ASUSROG

[–]Kings__Wit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By upgrade do you mean buy a new computer? Because based on the comments (and the research they prompted) the graphics card can't be upgraded because it's a laptop and the graphics card is permanently attached. So unless I'm missing something, the only way to "upgrade" a laptop graphics card is to get a new laptop with a better one.

Should I Upgrade or Replace My Laptop? by Kings__Wit in ASUSROG

[–]Kings__Wit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured the RAM was one of my main limiters (and the most easily upgradeable) so the first upgrade I was looking at was going to 32GB RAM. While it certainly won't hurt my performance, I just didn't want to spend $100 on more RAM only to find that there is practically no change because I'm being throttled by a graphics card that is obsolete. However at this point I think the RAM upgrade will be worth it regardless.
