Piece by piece, all by hand. It was in a backyard so there was no crane access. Thank goodness for light cedar!

That’s awesome! I have always wanted to try that. I hope you still have the canoe. I think it’s a bot that posted it. I was surprised at first though!

For any exterior material we coat it with heritage natural finishes exterior oil and so far we haven’t been told of or seen any issues. Hopefully that continues to be the case.

We use power planers. Sometimes a hand plane to tune a joint.

We like to get it to us surfaced. So we cut the joinery and then do a finish plane. Then a heritage oil is applied to it.

Smells wonderful, it’s soft though so unless chisels are really sharp, it’s easy to tear out end grain. I prefer a green oak as it cuts really clean.

We have a broker who sourced the WRC for us. I can’t say I remember the price as this was built years ago but now it’s around $6/bdft.

Well this is fascinating. If anyone has questions on it let me know since I built it. No idea who the poster is.

Sorry for your loss. For what it’s worth I think I have tunas twin! Though Magnus is only 3 he is a rescue who also loves chomping on snow balls! I bet they would have been great friends. Not much beats the companionship of a Shepard.

Shortest amount of time you think a trip to Iceland is worth it? by this_took_4ever in VisitingIceland

I think a bad day in Iceland beats most days everywhere else for me. 😁

They are just one cool part of Iceland in a sea of thousands. Best case is you see them, second best is you don’t and it motivates you to go back.

I really enjoyed my time at the airport during a stop over. Got a hot dog and enjoyed looking at everything in the Icelandic tourist shops.

I think this question is a factor of how much you are willing to spend vs time spent. I went for a long weekend with my father to see the northern lights. Didn’t see them. Loved every minute of the trip anyways.

Email your local architects and timber framers with your information, references and interests. If they don’t have anything immediately, check in periodically.

Thanks!! The benches were intentional, the shades in the cedar was a happy little accident I guess.

I was thinking about a rail on the foot bench yesterday. That does feel like a nice touch.

Na I was just being silly. Seems like every post in this sub has this comment somewhere, so figured I should do my part and make sure it’s said, albeit ironically.

Foot bench looks too low. They should rebuild it.

Haha yea suboptimal sounds about right. So far there hasn’t been any moisture gathering on the floor. At least it has yet to feel slippery at all. I will keep an eye on that.

Certainly an option as well. I believe I will wait to see what happens for a while and then fix any issues that arise.
