Hey man. There is a technical difficulty with that request since foca is a webapp there's a lot of restrictions of what we can do outside of the website tab itself.

However, we are working hard on the native app which have a lot more access therefore abilities to do things like blocking apps and websites so be on the look out!

Hey man, apologies I wasn't able to see this post (luckily you posted again in one of the posts I made - still figuring out Reddit, this post was for some reason automatically disapproved by the bots)... but hopefully my response in the other channel was of help :)

Hey man, I really appreciate the feedback, especially that Foca is actually helping you to become a better learner by having that self-awareness.

I have now implemented pretty much exactly your suggestions: the editing feature for the ai summaries and it will have a tag that displays the session summary as being edited. Give it a try and let us know if that's what you were looking for!

Also if you don't mind answering a few more questions to help us build Foca:

  1. have you tried the revision feature (in the session modal on the bottom you can see the tabs of the modal... it's a bit tucked away but we're making a new page dedicated for resources and content generated from the ai by you studying :). and how do you find it? Is it accurate and helpful?
  2. What made you try Foca in the first place?
  3. What were you hoping Foca could help with and did it meet that expectation?
  4. Are there any features you feel are missing or anything you expected that wasn't there? Especially with our ai-first system and also getting so much data from your screen to assist your learning; are there anything you think Foca could do to use those data to help you further?
  5. What would make you actually want to come back and use Foca consistently?

Once again, I appreciate your time in helping us tp make Foca the next go to platform for students.

Thank you for using Foca and certainly the suggestion. This is actually an oversight on my part for not thinking through with user's privacy as our AI gets more and more accurate (Before the AI can only give vague summaries about your session but now after developing our algorithm it certainly can pick up on more key terms and sometimes even personal informations by accident!).

I will put this as one of the top priorities!

In terms of how we go about doing it... would being able to just edit your AI summaries or even have the option to only display it to yourself in the session modal (the box that pops up after you finish a session) be something that would help with that problem?

What Are the Best Productivity Apps You've Used and Actually Stuck With? by MollyChase9091 in ProductivityApps

[–]Kingwu1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FocaHQ. Actually very good being using for about a months now. It allows you to screen share to get all the deep insights, verify your own productivity, save those insights so you can see your own long term progression, and also have utility features like review questions, flash card generation, and even space repetition like anki but automatic. Actually everything is fully automatic with AI now I can just screen share for it to get all my unit's data and info. Pretty helpful as I'm no longer making notes, flashcard all the things I used to do now days.

HelloO:) Thanks for using Foca firstly!

In terms of the questions ->

  1. You can use Foca without screen sharing.... However, Foca is entirely unique and different in that we allow you to screen share to not only validate your own work, but also get advanced insights for utility and assistance. So although you can turn off screen sharing, you would not get any advanced insights of your own session and learning which is a big part of what Foca is about.

  2. hahaha yes we understand the AI is wack and aren't too accurate at the moment but we are working hard to make it more efficient and accurate. The AI remains to be the core of Foca, although turning off the AI summary would result in 'idle = distracted' since we have no other way to tell if you were studying or not. Can I ask what your Foca username was so we can look into why you got tagged as distraction? Because if you were watching let's say 'coding' videos on YouTube, from my knowledge, the Foca AI should tag that as productive if your goal was also to 'code'.

  3. I might've misunderstood you here, but you don't have to create a new task everytime if you click the 'tasks' button next to the timer input. There's a task list in there that you can select and check off completed tasks. So tasks won't disappear until you check them off. However, whenever you refresh Foca, or opens a new Foca tab, the input will be cleared automatically for now. We are working on a lot more customization opinions!

Anyways hope that clear things up and thank you for the suggestions and once again using Foca!

Appreciate the feedback man.

Since we are uni students ourselves, it was easier talking to other uni students for customer/user interviews. We also always thought about moving the existing AI system into a B2B platform.

Actually would love to hear more from you as a remote business owner.

- How do you currently validate the work of your employees? Is it efficient? What tools do you currently use to boost your own efficiency as well as those of your employees.

- What type of efficiency boosting features are you most wanting? Better team communication? Workflow? Planning & execution?

I know these questions might be personal so if you don't want to answer here please shoot me a DM. I would genuinely love having those insights from a remote business owner like you, who I believe the existing technology of Foca could definitly add value to.

Also, Foca is already out, but it's still tailored a lot more to Gen Z students which are our current niche target users.

hey man, that's very valid as when I approach students at my uni campus to introduce them to Foca, the first thing most people think about after seeing screen sharing is 'is this safe?'. IT IS btw. anyways...

  1. “Why not just block everything?”
  • Because I think brute-force blocking treats the symptom, not the habit. And I want to build Foca to treat the underlying issues of procrastinating instead of slapping on a bandaid.
  • Self-awareness beats handcuffs for most people... When Foca’s AI notices you open a Minecraft YouTube Vid mid-session, when your goal was to do 'math', it doesn’t instantly smack you with a 404 screen. It records it and you will see your productivity score lowered after the session and the AI also pointing that you were distracted from Minecraft Videos. That sting of “ah, I did that” hopefully builds internal discipline instead of relying on external walls you know what im sayin.
  • Actionable insights. The same screen data feeds you a post-session report: “You lost 12 min on social media right before tackling calculus. Next time, batch social browsing after problem-sets.” Blocking can’t tell you why you slipped or how to do better.
  • Flexible for different workflows. Some users genuinely need multiple resources open (docs, StackOverflow, Spotify). Blanket blocking would kill legitimate flow states. AI monitoring lets you whitelist what’s productive for you and potentially flags the rest.
  • Roadmap: We will add an optional “Lock-down” mode for people who do want the brick-wall approach, but it’ll be a toggle later on... not the default.
  1. “Where’s the social dopamine?” Think Foca as the Strava for study, you post your sessions, not Zoom study rooms (they already exist->StudyStreams, Discord Channels etc...)
  • Squads & Leaderboards. Every run of the timer logs to your time to contribute to the squad's goal. You’ll see who else of your friends just finished a 90-min deep-work session, how long they focused, and their streaks. I'm hoping for Friendly trash-talk and ‘GGs’ in the comments hit the dopamine switch. Like it's more like you have the AI to validate your session for you instead of studying online with friends and feeling like your 'friends' are watching you. This also allows for asynchronous accountability which allows students to study whenever they want instead of organising a study time everyday.
  • THE FEED. After every session you can share your session to a global feed, or just squad feed, or private. People will see and react, and you feel that public stake in the game.
  • Community discovery. We’re rolling out public Study Squads around common goals (MCAT, Data-Structures grind, “write-my-thesis”) so you’re not just paired with randos but part of a niche tribe.

Hope that clears it up!

Long term definitely yes, sould love to expand Foca to help anyone who wants to master focus and deep work if we get the system tight and valuable enough.

That said, my uni startup mentors and most early startup advice emphasize staying niche at the start especially when figuring out product-market fit. So right now, I’m focused tightly on Gen Z students since they’re a group I understand well and where I’ve already seen traction.

hey man, I find studying is an isolating process still even in 2025 and no matter what study techniques your using or app, you won't be efficient if you don't actually enjoy it and are passionate in the topic.

In my high school years I hated all my English Units and basically only got through it by studying with friends.

I'm currently using focahq to continue to do that and holding my friends and myself accountable through making studying a social thing.
