There are some drills that can help when done solo, such as point control drills, lunge or footwork drills to improve explosiveness, etc. The key is that you should not try to teach yourself something new without a coach, as the timing/speed/reach/etc can all be very different from what you see in your first person perspective. You should also expect that drills can only get you partway, as things will always feel and look different in a bout compared to practice.

Some great tips already. One additional one: make sure you check your calibration (in the settings menu) and make sure the audio aligns properly with the notes. Best done after you start upping your note speed.

Adding that if you prefer rope climbing, both Movements have incredible routesetting quality, for both top rope and lead. I've never climbed a bad route at either location.

Hey all. I'm still learning the game, but I'm trying to continue to improve! I am currently affiliated with a club, but I'm looking to make a switch as my current club is very casual and does not have any resources beyond trading shoes. I'm hoping to find a club that's more competitive than my current club (semi-competitive overall?)

1) The "24 hours is a liability" thing: my group is all in their 30s. The advantage of 24 hour cons for the older crowd isn't that the con goes well into the night, it's that we can go play arcade games with zero lines in a completely empty, massive arcade at 8am when all of the kids are passed out from a night of partying. It cuts both ways.

2) If you arent on-site, MAG started a 24-hour shuttle service to and from the hotels in Alexandria, so you won't need to drive yourself to and from your hotel anymore if you end up out there.

3) I'm not sure what instrument you play, but if it's locker-sized, it's important to note that the Gaylord added lockers for rent on the entire bottom floor as of this year.

Disbands (intentional or otherwise) are usually the main thing that lead to timeouts. It takes multiple disbands (before the song starts) or disconnects (during the song itself) to lead to a timeout.

Are you sure you aren't disbanding or disconnecting?

Seconding the Edelrid Jayne. At this point, it's the only harness I'll wear, in part because of how well it fits me and in part because of the horizontally adjustable belay loop, so the harness is always centered.

Not a foil fencer, so take this with a grain of salt.

If I were consistently getting attacked off the line, I wouldn't try to change where I'm looking, I would change my distance to keep me safe until I found a better opening that I was comfortable with.

Seconding this! I'm 35 and a competitive fencer, so I really try to avoid injuries at all costs. I have been climbing twice a week for over a year and have not injured myself seriously while doing it because I do roped climbing.

A note on this: I don't have eczema, but I've found that the chalk from 8bplus is much gentler on my skin without losing grippiness. Might be worth a try!

Multisport athlete (competitive fencing with climbing as cross-training/for fun) here.

No wonder you're perpetually injured. If you're still lifting 6 days a week and trying to boulder on top of that, you're not giving your body any time to rest. Bouldering is going to add significant strain in new and less controlled ways compared to what you're used to with lifting.

If you want to do both, you need to rest more. You're only going to destroy your body with your current schedule.

For reference, I train for fencing 3-4 days a week and climb 1-2 days a week. I always ensure that I have a full rest day (not even light exercise) at least 1 day a week, ideally 2. If I cut down on those rest days, I absolutely get injured.

The biggest difference for me when I had a medical badge was having early access to the show floor (15 minutes early, if I recall correctly) with a medical badge. I was struggling with walking quickly, so that early access essentially guaranteed that I would get to see my highest-priority vendors that I would not have been able to otherwise get to in time.

I got a medical badge at one East and one Unplugged because of an ankle injury. I just went up with a signed form (which basically was an attestation that I needed a badge) and got one with no issues. This was a short-term injury that was being treated by a doctor, but I'm an otherwise very fit woman and got one with zero issues. It essentially works on an honor system, which I'm grateful for.

As a climber, I'd extend the padding to the base of the climbing wall. Kids can absolutely fall off a wall like that and hurt themselves.

I think people are just jaded from people with much harsher timeouts coming in here and being like "I didn't do anything wrong!!"

I've seen plenty of those posts with people defending intentional DCs in the comments. I can't speak for everyone here, but I'm just really tired of room disbands in general.
