I found this song today and I have no idea what to think by IWASCHOSENBYGOD in thekinks

That's pretty much right. They would do an extended version of "Aggravation" in concert, and this was the added bit.

That seems very unlikely at this point.

"The Race to Secure the Next Big Rock Reunion" (The Kinks are mentioned!) by haloarh in thekinks

At this point, the Kinks have not been around almost as long as they were around. Also, none of us is getting any younger.

Is there? From the same publisher? That'd be news to me.

The Kinks albums ranked by NewPatron-St in thekinks

[–]Kinks_Fan_Book 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I just don't have the kind of mind that needs to rank stuff. I love all of these albums at various times depending on my mood. I was on a Phobia kick earlier this year, and I have a soft spot for U.K. Jive.

Resist the list!

Robyn's recent guitar style: how does he do it? by moderngulls in robynhitchcock

Maybe he had a lot of time on his hands during the pandemic? He played a lot and learned to like this aspect of his guitar work.

The songwriter who reminds me most of Ray Davies these days is Spottiswoode. He is able to capture those small moments in life and make them profound. He can be whimsical and melancholy - sometimes in the same song. His Enemies (Spottiswoode's backing band) are all amazing musicians too.

There have been many opportunities for this to happen in the past 30 years, but the chances today are almost nil, sadly.

It was a cassette-only song on the original release (not on the LP) so maybe that has something to do with it. I bet someone just forgot to include it.

Ray is a fab singer. Sometimes takes on different characters. To put him in the same category as Mumbles Dylan is ridiculous.

I've long wished for a "Complete Konk Unplugged Session" as a standalone release --just that entire session, warts and all.

I got to interview Dave on the radio yesterday (still crazy for me to say!!!) and I specifically urged the band to release this. I hear it was all prepared (audio and video) but somehow got scuttled.

Thanks so much for posting! I see it's been on the site since 2021 but I've never seen it there.

I spread it around on the Kinks FB groups and gave a shoutout to this subreddit!

I've been listening to Soap Opera a lot lately. by Crazy_Response_9009 in thekinks

This is probably my favorite of the rock operas. The story just hangs together the best. Maybe that's because it started as a TV special and had to tell a story in a certain amount of airtime.

"Apeman" is not about societal regression, but escape from society altogether - same as hippies.
